Formidable PC for the price!
By Mike F
I recently purchased this HPE h8-1220 desktop PC and I am generally impressed by its speed and storage capacity. This PC is also very quiet, and for its price, is an amazing bargain. I play a lot of games, and even with the settings maxed, I am not experiencing any drop in frame rates. The hard drive is huge, and I expect that this PC will be useful as my primary gamer for several years. There is one slot for additional RAM, and room for another hard drive. I threw in my old PC's 500 gig hard drive and now have two in the machine, and the PC was able to read the information quickly off the new hard drive. It took less than two minutes to read 500 gigs the first time! The speed of this machine is remarkable.Pros: Quiet, this PC is almost silent most of the time. Fast - the first generation bulldozer 8 core chip is very fast, unless you are running old programs, and then it is just adequate for a single core. Tons of RAM (10 gigs). Good 2 gig Nvidia GPU - not top end, but a solid current generation chip. Two terabyte hard drive - the drive is a tiny bit slow, but it is massive! WiFi card - I am able to read several neighborhood wireless signals, so the internal card is at least as strong as a laptops' would be. Card readers, etc... Room to grow - I added another hard drive and a couple gigs of RAM to my machine, and I am contemplating adding a Blu-Ray drive as well. This machine is an excellent base build to expand upon for its price. It is a major brand - i have had bad luck with some of the off brand builds over the last several years (my last PC was an IBUYPOWER and the motherboard died after a year and a half, taking my quad core chip with it - that was after replacing a faulty power supply!) so I am thrilled to see a major brand have better components, more power, and more RAM at a lower price point than the off brand competitors. This PC is small - not tiny, but reasonably sized for a desktop.Cons: This PC does not have a Blu-ray drive, but there is room for one. The Power supply is only 300 Watts, so if you are a heavy user you may be at risk for eventually blowing your Power supply if you don't upgrade it. The AMD 8100 chip (8 core)is the bottom end of the 8 core chip series, so it is only 2.8 GHZ if you are running an old program that uses only a single core (the higher end chips like the 8120 is 3.30 GHZ and the 8150 is 3.6 GHZ per core for all 8 cores). Ultimately, for some programs the high end hex-core and Intel chips may be a better option for increased speed, although there aren't any programs that I run where it would matter.I would write a fan letter to HP for making this PC if I thought it would matter. You won't find an 8 core processor with a 2TB Hard drive, and a 2 gig Nvidia GPU with on-board WIFI and 10 gigs of RAM for anything less than $250.00 above this current PC's price. This is the best PC at this price available at the time this review is written, and if you want to expand it, it could be a good base system, but for me I expect that this computer will remain relevant in my household for as long as a decade. It really is that good for the price!I did receive all cords and components with the PC, and it is exactly as it is advertised. I paired it with a HP 23 inch LED monitor for $159.00, and now my system is bordering on beastly...

Great computer - when you fix the blue screen problems
By Michael Hunstad
This is a great machine - fast and powerful. Many of the other reviews complain of blue screen problems which I myself encountered a couple of times a day the first few weeks. Then I installed WhoCrashed and BlueScreenView and discovered a driver for one of my monitors was incompatible with a 64 bit machine. After updating the driver everything works well. I suspect many reviewers with similar problems are trying to use drivers they used on their old 32 bit machines only to have them fail. Just go to the website of your hardware manufacturer and download the 64 bit version of your driver and you should be fine.I should note that HP Support was comically worthless. The gentleman on the phone insisted I had a virus and after much confusion could only recommend that I restart the machine. I received better advice from my four year old nephew.

Blazing Fast!!
By Vince
Just received this computer the other day, and I must say that I am VERY impressed!! This PC flawlessly carries out all commands, from playing videos, to burning cds, playing video games (Mass Effect 3), to running programs, and rendering webpages. It doesn't hiccup, choke, pause, wait, nor hesitate!! :) With 10gb of ram installed, an 8 core processor, combined with a video card that has 2gb of it's own ram, it's like a perfect match made in Heaven. Trust me, if you purchase this PC, you WILL NOT be dis-satisfied.......guaranteed!! Delivery was FAST, it actually arrived one day ahead of schedule, and that was with a 2 day delivery setup. In summary, I am EXTREMELY pleased that I made this purchase. HP makes high quality products, and I must mention, that this computer is WHISPER quiet as well. :)
