5Works fine with Ubuntu 12.10
By Zach
Ubuntu 12.10 works great after disabling UEFI secure boot. Using it as a home server/development machine and no complaints yet.

4Lenovo H520S - Good but don't expect to upgrade
By Mr. N. S. Clarke
The Lenovo H520S was not bought via Amazon and is an i5 model with 8Gb RAM and 2Tb HDD. It's a good performer loading quickly into Win 8. The OS is OK but a tablet OS for a desktop PC - what are Microsoft thinking of? I bought this because it's compact and because I didn't anticipate making many changes to the kit. However I decided that I'd fit a separate graphics card to provide better graphics performance and to free up on-board memory just so that I could produce a few slide-shows out of Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements. That's when you realise just how limited the machine is - you can't fit a separate graphics card. You can physically install a low profile card in the machine but with 180W power supply for the whole machine the 400W Radeon just didn't work. Looking at the list of graphics cards in the manual I doubt if ANY would work as a sample of available cards on Amazon soon showed a variance in power requirements of between 350 and 450 watts. So a great little machine if you don't want to do anything too ambitious and just need a good little work horse for the basics - word processing, managing your photos etc. Also I've looked at installing a USB3 card to run a Toshiba external 1Tb USB3 backup disc. Again the cards are fine but they all need Molex power to the board to run the disc. Inside the machine the power connectors aren't Molex. There appears to be no spare power connector from the power supply and the connections for the HDD and DVD are all tucked away out of sight so seeing what sort of splitter is required to provide power to a USB3 card is likely to be a bit of a long task. One final note the UEFI boot is a pain if you're expecting to boot separate OS's (e.g. Linux such as Ubuntu, SUSE etc.). With only Fedora getting a signature from Microsoft to date, a secure boot from anything other than Windows is unlikely at this time. I've yet to try switching Secure Boot off to try and load Linux from a USB key but others have written that it does work on this machine so maybe I'll have a go. In the meantime VMWare 4 runs perfectly good Linux VMs (I've tried Ubuntu, SUSE and Fedora)and running them alongside Windows is pretty quick for such a small machine. For lovers of the Penguin note that VMware 5 does not work very well - I've yet to get a stable VM of anything other than SUSE so have reverted to 4. SUMMARY - Good, quick basic PC but don't expect to upgrade hence 4 stars

5Great Computer
By Sandi K. Savedra
I am very happy with this computer and would recommend it for anyone that is not into excessive gaming or movie watching etc. Great that it has WiFi connection in it. Going to buy one for my husband as well.
