5Great computer!
By Spdn4cr
I'm not a computer junky but this was my first venture away from the Dell XPS series. I was trying to decide between this and the HPE-210F with this one (the HPE-410f) being the newer version of the two. For about $100 more I was getting faster ram and a 6 core computer instead of 4. I'm not really sure I even need a quad core since I don't use programs that require that much processing but I must say this computer flies! It boots up super quick and is very quiet. I haven't tried the bluray yet but I'm excited about using the lightscribe on it once I buy some lightscribe disks. The only thing I don't like about this computer which is the same for many other computers I've bought is the trial software that always comes installed on these things whether it be a trial antivirus or firewall. It can be removed I'm sure but if your not familiar with computers it is a little more of a hassle than it's worth. I'm definitely not disappointed so far. I'm definitely happy with my purchase :) For the reviewer who said their warranty was already expired...I'm not sure how that can happen since this computer hasn't even been on Amazon for the warranty period yet...it's only been out less than 2 months (I believe the manufacturer's warranty is 1 year)

4Nice upper-mid-range system
By Raymond Wilmott
Overall, this is a nice machine. Fast, lots of storage, plenty of RAM, with some nice extras like a blu-ray drive. Also a couple of things to be aware of.On the plus side, this machine is faster and has more storage than you'll need for any sort of day-to-day tasks. With its blu-ray drive and decent video card, you're all set to burn discs, watch HD video, play games, etc. And while it's not quite what a hard-core gamer is looking for, it's plenty good enough for the average game player (I've so far installed and played with Oblivion, Mass Effect, Test Drive Unlimited and Crysis Warhead....all play silky smooth once you get them installed (Windows7 causes some difficulties with ME and CW)).On the negative side, I thought at first that my system was DOA. Power light came on, but no video on my monitor. After playing around with cables, I opened the case up and wiggled the video card.....and after that things worked fine. Not the best out-of-box experience, but an easy fix: check for video card getting knocked loose in transit. Speaking of video, I was also not pleased that there was no direct VGA connection for my older monitor....but there is a VGA adapter included in the box, which solves the problem easily. The included optical mouse is fine, but the keyboard has a really cheap look and feel (and is also Compaq branded, so it doesn't even match the rest of the system!). My final "buyer-beware" is that at this point, after a week of solid use, I think the system is somewhat prone to overheating. I initially had it in the lower "tower space panel" of a typical computer desk...where my previous 2 PC's have lived happily over the past 10 years. Twice this machine crashed (BSOD, then reboot) while in that same space after running for several hours straight. I have since relocated it to a complete "open space" alongside the desk and have not had any crashes since. My feeling is that HP should have done a little better job with fans/ventilation.Bottom line - it's a nice computer overall, with a few glitches to be aware of.

5So far so good
By Robert J. Hayden Jr.
I have a 6 year old Dell that was running so very slow, it was frustrating. I researched PCs for over a month. I was ready to buy a powerful Gateway that was around $400 off of the normal price. I read all of the reviews that I could & they changed my mind. It had just too many people complaining about loose wires & over-heating due to ventilation problems. The refurbished HPs were very attractive. I settled on this, a new Elite 410f, because it seemed like such a lot of premium components for just slightly more than a refurbished. My only concern is the light, 300watt power supply. Amazon had the best price & free delivery. Plus, being a newer model, it had a 1 year warranty. I tracked the delivery & it took just 4 business days to get here (at 6:35PM!). I live in the upper midwest so I let it thaw out for over a day. I followed the directions & everything went smoothly, which is good because I am not a computer geek! Anyway, when I hit the power button, nothing happened! I had forgotten to throw the switch on the surge protector strip!! It has been working just fine, like a dream, for about 3 weeks now. Unlike what others have said in their reviews, this baby is whisper quiet. I did call HP for instructions on how to set it up wirelessly. It took over an hour to finally talk to someone. He gave me clear instructions & I have it running wirelessly with absolutely no problems. I even have my new HP Officejet 6500A (e) running wirelessly, too. Amazon had the best price on that, as well. Plus free shipping! Needles to say, I'm very happy & recommend this model.
