Fantasic PC
By R. Reznick
So when it came time for me to look for a new computer I decided I would treat myself and buy something more expensive than I normally would but finance it. I spent a lot of time looking around on Amazon, Best Buy, various consumer report websites and after a while I decided this was the computer I wanted. I am glad I made the choice, because so far I am very happy with it.So I will start by saying that my biggest concern was some of the mixed reviews I got about the company. There are some great reviews for them, but also some very bad reviews. This is just my opinion, but I think because this is a stock PC that they put together for resale on other sites, and not a custom job, there are less issues likely to pop up. Anyway, because of the bad reviews that I read I made the decision to get this computer from Best Buy and to have it delivered to the store. For free they offered to set up the computer with me and make sure there were no issues, so I didn't have to worry about taking home a dud.So first time (and every time since then) startup is lightning fast. It just turns on and is almost instantly ready. Now I have a hearing loss that I wear two hearing aids for, but I will say the computer runs very quiet, even when I start up very graphic intensive games. Because of the awesome case I can look inside and see the fans and everything running and it's just very smooth and well ventilated. CyberPowerPC did a great job with the cabling. Everything arrived plugged in perfectly and nothing is out of place. It is CLEAN.The red light illumination inside is a nice effect (though personally I would have loved it to be blue). One of the great features is there is a white light that shines down on the cables in the back, so in a darker room or at night you are able to perfectly see where all the various slots and ports are for USB and the like. I also find the white case itself to be very nice, though it's a little bigger then I imagined it to be. Overall it's impressive/imposing to look at.Windows 8 is new to me and at first I was not very happy with it, but I have taken the time to learn more about it and most of the issues I was annoyed with are no longer a problem. It just takes time before you learn all the tricks to get it working how you want. I will post more later, once I have used it for a longer time, but as of now I am neutral about it. I like it about as much as 7, and might learn to like it more soon. Now onto the important things, the games and graphics! It has a NVidia GTX 680 and I will say that in the store they ran the Heaven benchmark on it and it blew it away in terms of amazing frame rates. Once I took it home however and ran it on my much larger monitor at a higher resolution the performance dropped a lot... but that is to be expected because a benchmark is supposed to tax your system. I admit I was disappointed I was not getting amazing scores in 3D Mark and Heaven. However, I soon realized, who cares about those scores... because I ran Crysis 3 on it with every single setting maxed out as high as it could go and there was not a hiccup! I have run Skyrim and Farcry 3 and any other games I could think of to test it and they look awesome! I have learned it's silly to be worried about how something preforms in a benchmark as long as it works great in all the games you love. And it does.I have all my windows files and heavily used games on the solid state drive. It's a novelty just to watch how fast the computer is able to transfer large files from one place to another. So yeah, I don't know what else to say except that so far I am loving it and I don't regret my purchase one bit. To sum up and give the usual pros and cons...Pros:- The value (at the time of purchase) of what I was getting for the money was amazing. It was almost exactly the same price to have them build it then it would have been for me to buy all the parts and do it myself.- The case is attractive, both inside and out. The lighting inside and the glass viewing area make it look cool and the lights that show you the connections in the back are functional and helpful.- Graphics card is amazing and runs the most graphic intensive things I can find as smooth as a babies butt!- Starts up and runs super-fast in general.- Tons of USB ports.- Fans run quietly, even at their highest speeds (I turned them up to max to test them).Cons:- It's big... really big.- Windows 8 takes time to get used to, and there is no easy way to downgrade.- It does not run the most intensive benchmarks as smoothly as I had hoped (But again, plays all games flawlessly)- The price. I was able to get it for $1,900 before tax. That's a lot for a computer, and the price has gone up since then.Overall, I'd say if you have the money for this, or can get it financed, it's a very fun and attractive option and so far, having had it for exactly 2 weeks today, I am happy with my choice. I will update things in several months, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
