1If you're planning to upgrade the graphics card, don't bother with this POS
By Mitchinnom
I ordered this item with the sole intention of upgrading the video card. The bios is really crappy and does not have the option to disable the on board video card. Now if a manufacturer leaves that out of a bios, you'd think that at least it will shut off on it's own automatically but this was not the case. Installing a new power supply and video card caused a conflict and the monitor would not register a signal. I troubleshooted the graphics card with another desktop I have and it is working well. Once I was able to detect the problem, I called Acer customer service.Acer technical support is crap. It's probably outsourced to India. They didn't know anything and suggested I contact a "local technician". I asked if there was a bios update but they told me there was none and that I had to "unlock the bios physically". I asked if there was a jumper setting or something else on the motherboard to "unlock the bios" but just kept referring me to a local technician.** Note- I was able to access the bios and make changes within the bios. The problem I had was that there was no way to disable to on board graphics card.Bottom Line - If you're planning to purchase this for the sole purpose of using it as is with no upgrades, it may be an OK deal. Anything else, save yourself the headache, time, and frustration.

5Great PC
By Brad Feltz
Windows 8 boot time seems fast. It takes about 54 seconds from the time I turn it on, to the the time the desktop appears with my icons. I like the speed of the wireless card connection to my Verizon hot spot. I like the 45 degree USB/audio jack/mic jack/card reader on the top and up front. With the Intel I5, 1TB HD, and 8 GB RAM fir a reasonable price ($490), I'll give it 5 stars. Thanks Amazon and Acer!!

5A big step up
By Neurasthenic
I bought this Mac Pro to replace a PowerMac that was over seven years old, and which had fallen inadequate to handle my increasingly demanding digital image processing, and which was all but worthless at running Microsoft Windows. This Mac Pro is probably 8x faster than the PowerMac at most tasks, and its case design is lovely. The way PCI cards snap into and out of place without screws, the easy accessibility of the DIMM slots on a pull-out card, and the ability to add and remove drives without cables, all reflect Apple's obsession with details.Despite having at least one massive fan in the case, it is much quieter than the PowerMac. In another advantage over the older machine, it has ports on both the front and back. As with previous Mac Pros and PowerMacs, RAM, disk, connectivity, and optical drives are all very expandable. The Mac Pro runs Windows Vista faster than any dedicated Windows box I've ever used, and with VMware Fusion, I can even run Windows applications within the Mac environment. The Mac Pro comes with all sorts of Apple software, though I use mostly third party alternatives (my first three installations were Microsoft Office, Adobe CS4, and Mathematica). The latter two run much better on this than they, or their predecessors, had ever run on the PowerMac. I'm keeping the old box around only to run some much older software, which by virtue of needing Mac OS9 or some other quirk, won't run on the new box. In general, software compatibility is excellent. I had no trouble with drivers for my tablet or printer or any of my scanners (Nikon, Canon, and Fujitsu). What's not to love? Some will complain about the price, but I'm not going to bother; if you want a cheaper machine, iMacs and Mac Minis are available. The absence of Firewire 400 was a disappointment for me, though adapter cables and PCI cards are readily available. I bought a Sonnet card that adds two firewire 400 ports for about $50. This box is PCI-Express only, so you won't be able to use standard PCI or PCI-x cards. Some may grouse about Apple's standard keyboard and/or mouse, but I use third party solutions there too.I got 7+ years out of my last computer, and I would not be surprised to get the same out of this one.

5Exceeded All Expectations
By Mark Cutler
I bought this to replace a 4-year-old G5 (dual 2.7 Ghz).I push my Macs to the limit - the new one now has three video cards to support 5 monitors (way cheaper than even just 1 30 inch monitor), 16 Gb of memory, and 3 hard drives for a total of 2+ TB of space. I typically run 15 or more programs simultaneously (Word, Excel, Safari, Mail, Quicken, iTunes, a calendar program, a database, Crossover (to run a Windows based legal research engine), and more). The new MacPro has been running for a week now, without a single freeze or unexpected quit, or even a spinning beachball. It is the quietest Mac I have owned since my original 128k Mac. It is so quiet I often am surprised to see it is still running. It is much faster in every respect.I was hoping for improved stability and speed, but I never expected it to be this stable right out of the box - I thought it would take a few updates to the system software to get rid of new strangeness in a new architecture, but this is already as close to flawless as I ever expected to see in a Mac that is pushed beyond normal usage. Also, the migration assistant easily moved everything I needed from my old Mac to my new one.Be alert - there is no wireless card in the standard configuration. To my knowledge, the only way to get one is at an Apple store for $49. But installation is free and wireless internet is a breeze once the card is installed.

5Super Fast and Very Quiet
By D. Amini
I owned a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz before the video card died. I use two cinema HD monitors and the AGP cards are hard to find for that older model. I am not a super power user so I seldom encode heavy duty video. I am a light user of Aperture and Photoshop. Trying to do light video and photo editing on my G5 was not painfully slow but the computer was showing its age. Typical tasks took a while; I would walk away and sometimes come back an hour later. The G5 was loud and hot. The ATI x800 XT was a noisy and a buggy video card. When I opened my new Mac Pro I was wondering if I should have bought last year's dual quad processor (2.8 Ghz) instead of the new Nehalem single processor (2.6 Ghz). The prices were pretty close. The 2009 model has more RAM and a bigger hard drive. Rest assured this new machine is no slouch. I am not sure how many professional Mac users use Mac Pros and how many get by with the Macbook Pro; but, I think that if high end professionals can use a laptop with a dual core processor then I certainly should be OK with a single Quad core processor. I ordered mine with a second NVIDIA GT 120 video card. This way I have two Dual Link DVI ports and two Mini DisplayPorts. Remember, the standard computer ships with a single video card that offers only one Dual Link DVI port. The other port is Apple's Mini DisplayPort which works only with Apple's new 24 inch glossy display. The adapter needed to plug in any other monitor (think 30 inch Cinema HD) into the Mini DisplayPort is a ridiculous $100. After buying this adapter, there is no guarantee it will work!!! Hence, I just bought an extra video card. The case is a breeze to work with. I slipped in the video card without any screwdriver or tools. My old hard drive went into the second slot tray (I did need a screwdriver to fasten the hard drive to the tray). The hard drive trays are side by side and pull out like a drawer. No wires, no broken fingernails, no bloody knuckles. RAM can be added and swapped out easily too. After connecting each monitor to a separate video card, I booted it up and imported all my old settings. The machine was done setting up and ready to roll in 25 minutes. The fan noise from the video cards is barely noticeable. My Macbook is three times louder. I don't know what people are talking about when they say that the video card fan is noisy? I suppose if you put it on top of your desk next to your monitor it might be noticeable, but it is not any louder than any laptop. I have yet to see the dreaded beach ball spinning. This is the quietest and fastest machine I have ever used. I tried a 17 inch (2.6 Ghz) Macbook Pro at the Apple store and it was much noisier and much slower. It is possible that the laptop was running SMC fan control so I won't complain about the laptop fan. If you are one of those people that puts their laptop on top of those cooling devices/fans then you can appreciate just how noisy things can get. For me, the reliability and easy access to Mac Pro case make this a long term investment. I think it should easily last 5 years. There are only 4 RAM slots and I can upgrade from the standard 3GB to 8GB for $150. If you need more than 8GB RAM then opt for the dual quad core model and double the available slots. If you need that much RAM you probably are not going to be happy with this single processor machine anyway. I think that some of the hype about Ghz and number of processors has made people speed crazy. There are some who would disagree with me and argue that you can never have too many processors and too much RAM. I would look at the bottom line and budget accordingly. Remember that the next new model will be out next year! Be honest with yourself and remember to factor in the costs of upgrades like HDs, RAM, Applecare, Video cards, Ports etc. One final note; I do miss the Firewire 400 ports. OWC sells Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapters that fit over the plugs. It is a $5 fix. I think that you will be happy with this machine if you don't need multiple processors and aren't going to add over 16 GB of RAM. It is plenty fast and very quiet. If you are a home user and don't need to open the case to upgrade parts, consider the iMac as an alternative. It comes with a bright 24 inch screen and is almost as fast.

4Neato
By Aku
I have had a laptop for years, and since it was running out of space, I was looking for a decent computer with a big hard drive. This definitely fits those requirements, but put a big emphasis on "decent."Taking the (freaking huge) screen/computer out of the box for the first time, I couldn't help but be impressed. Being a half a foot larger than my laptop's screen, I'm basically looking at a landscape instead of a screen. Colors are crisp, no immediate problems, but consider the following if you're just going to use the thing for web-browsing: most sites aren't ready to be presented in a screen this big. Yahoo, Myspace, all the usuals will have wide white bars to the side. Youtube videos that don't have at least 480P (and preferably 720) will look incredibly small OR very grainy in the full screen mode.Luckily, this all-in-one thing lives up to its name, and includes a very nice selection of outputs. A HDTV tuner for a cable box, several jack types for games (SPDIF means audio transfer...yay?), along with an IR receiver means it's basically a cable-ready TV and computer in one setup. Still yet, for those looking just at the basics of web surfing, perhaps a smaller screen wouldn't hurt.I'm really just going to write off the touch controls as mere distractions. The big problem is the system's 2.13 or so GHz can't quickly handle some of the programs without stuttering or minor freezing. It doesn't kill the experience by far, but it's definitely irksome to wait that extra second for the screen to register that motion you just did. Some of the options are cool - importing an iTunes library into the touchscreen music player comes to mind - but ultimately not as fast or efficient as the good old fashioned mouse and keyboard.Speaking of the mouse: get a new one. The HP mouse fits nicely in the hand, but lacks a forward/back button I seriously miss from the laptop mouse, misses the occasional click, and sometimes takes a split second to notice it's being moved around. The keyboard is sleek, flat, and almost perfect. I say almost, because the plastic bit at the bottom makes the space bar a little hard to hit, but other than that it's excellent. But the coolest goodie is the remote it comes with. Start a playlist on iTunes, skip the songs you don't want to hear, fast forward through a WMV, turn up/down the volume, it's a nice touch I didn't think I'd like on a computer. If you need the strict basics of a computer, for internet or perhaps high-end gaming, I'd look for something a little stronger than the guts inside this thing. But if you feel like you'd made use of the several screen outputs, or have some video editing to do, this would probably fit the bill nicely as an entertainment device and basic work setup.

4Nice Touch Screen 23" All-in-One System
By Rick J. Rider
So far so good. I think the "Touch Screen" is more of a fun feature than a use it every day feature. Maybe that is because I am so used to using my mouse. Also the speakers are not very loud/powerfull but I had a set of Bose speakers from my old computer system so I hooked them up, so no problem. I love the All-in-One system...eliminates a lot of cord clutter. I did purchase the 4 year Square Trade Warranty but I really hope I don't need to use it!

5GREAT SERVICE AND GREAT COMPUTER
By OZIE HENRY
I purchased a Dell Optiplex GX520 Intel Pentium 4 for $116.00. Not wanting to spend a lot, just needed to surf the internet and download music. For this price I got just what I wanted, the computer was in excellent condition, I had a problem with the key board and they graciously exchanged it for me. I was able to go to their warehouse in Downey and was able to see 100's of refurbished computers in stock. I had a software problem caused by something I downloaded. I called them and they took the time to take me step by step to resolve my issue. I am very happy with the Computer, Price and Service. All of this for just $116.00 what more could you ask for. In this case I got what I paid for and more!

5A reliable workhorse for me in the past 5 years
By Chong Q. Wu
This is the most reliable PC have have ever owned. I use it mainly to edit my photos as I am a photographer. I have upgraded the CPU to a faster one and added the memory up to the limit of 4GB. It is running so well i feel I can indefinitely keep running it. And then, came with the fatal attraction of a MAC. Very satisfied with this Dell Dimension E521 - one of Dell's legacy.

4Good stable computer, but it's old now
By G. Farney
I had this computer, purchased direct from Dell back in 2006. I upgraded the CPU to the 3GHz dual core, upgraded the CPU heatsink as the new CPU was 125 watt instead of 89 watt, stuck in as much hard drive as was required, maxed out the memory to 4GB, Windows XP was nice and stable, added a couple of extra fans to keep temps extra low in the summer heat, but the best upgrade to be done was a video card, by far the most noticeable improvement. I use a reasonably priced XFX HD 5670 and it was great. At this point though, this should be the computer you're replacing, not buying, unless you're on a seriously limited budget. It works, don't get me wrong, but it's limited even in it's maxed out build. I donated mine to a non profit with a fresh Win7 build, it's doing great for basic MS Publisher, Word, Excel, and of course email and surfing. Windows 7 installed without needing to download a single driver manually, it was wonderful, if you're not sure about upgrading, you can with this PC.My only real complaint was that it will NOT take double size video cards, power supply is limited anyway, the single fan that cools the CPU is also the case fan, lose it and you're going to have problems, and of course the Dell proprietary components make upgrades more difficult (like the fan and heatsink were Dell specific, it requires a lot of research to find a heat sink that would work in this PC for the upgraded CPU)Clean the dust out a few times a year and this computer will chug along for a while to come, provided you're not looking to do too much on it.

3Not the best, but serves its purpose
By CJ
I have had this computer for awhile, and it's done fine. It's gone through a lot of hard work, alot of time spent busy. But it has held up fine and has satisfied me.However, it has not been the dream computer, either. It has crashed many times and has even had the hard drive replaced and is nowhere near consistent with everyday performance.I have concluded that if you are on a budget, this computer should be considered. However, it certainly should not be thought of as a top-of-the-line, feature-filled computer. It could be useful for experimentation, but not for heavy-duty work.

1Very Bad Choice.
By Rosemary E. Kowalski
We have had this computer for a year and a half. Suddenly the screen would go black, and unable to restart the computer. Gateway was useless in trying to solve the problem. The best we could learn was that it was a hardware problem; cut your loses. Our repair person was not able to open the case to even try to repair it.

5What a bargain!
By James F. Strasma
This is just a quick note to fill in a couple of details not in the listed specs, now that I've actually received and set up 2 of these. The version of ION graphics is listed on the box as "GT218-ION" They work perfectly, so far as I can tell for You Tube HD (and Hulu) videos. (I did first upgrade Flash to version 10.1.)The "wireless" mouse and keyboard work via a nano-size dongle installed in a USB port, and are fine up to a distance of about 5 feet. They are seen by Windows as 2.4GHz, but are not listed as Bluetooth. Both the VGA video to a 20" 1600 x 1200 pixel LCD PC monitor and the HDMI video to a 46" 1080p (1920 x 1024 pixel) LED TV work fine. (I did reduce the resolution slightly on the TV due to the TV's overscanning otherwise hiding the edge of the PC display screen. I'm sure the overscan can also be adjusted in the TV settings to resolve this without reducing resolution, but didn't find the place to do so quickly enough.)Speed is listed as 3.5 on the Windows Experience, compared to 2.1 on our Asus Eee PC 1000 running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium. (These new PCs run the 64 bit version.)These are marvelously quiet. The only time the fan is ever audible is for a moment during the initial power-on sequence.I had no trouble installing our Samsung USB DVD player. Just plugged it in and it was immediately recognized. Likewise, pointing to my HP 2605 networked color laser printer - found and configured automatically. (One suggestion: when the printer installer offers to update its list of printer drivers, let it.)It wasn't initially clear how I would reinstall everything if the hard drive ever fails. The PC didn't come with any media to be used for that. (I later discovered the included program eRecovery creates an image of the factory setup on 3 DVDs, with a fourth DVD for drivers, and easily made a set on DVD+RW disks, using the above-mentioned external DVD driveSamsung USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive for Mac and PC SE-S084C/RSBN (Gloss Black).)Another day in and I've removed some of the unneeded pre-installed programs, disabled unwanted startup programs with msconfig, installed Microsoft Security Essentials, Firefox (along with add-ins Firefox Sync, NoScript, Flashblock, and BetterPrivacy), and Microsoft Office 2007 (2010 comes pre-installed, but would have cost me extra.) Windows Update has found and installed dozens of security upgrades.Day 3: Telecommuted using this PC today. The VPN link was fine, as was management of a remote database application and a GoToMeeting that included both audio and video. Nothing I did today spiked CPU utilization about 40%! I also checked electricity used, and found it usually under 25 watts, barely more than the 20 watts used by our Asus Eee PC 1000 netbook, despite this Acer having more cores (2 rather than 1), faster clock speed (1.8GHz in place of 1.6GHz), and a 216GB hard drive (rather than 40GB of SSD.) Both 802.11b WiFi and Gigabit Ethernet Internet links work fine.I'll keep adding more as I finish configuring these, but wanted to post now in case anyone else has been wondering whether these actually exist and are any good. The answer is yes!Update: Two weeks in, this has still been a perfect choice for both of us. Everything is now configured just the way we like, and a full system backup made, just in case. (I used our USB external DVD+RW drive, but any external USB drive with enough space would do.)For anyone wondering whether the standard 2GB of RAM is enough, neither of ours has yet used even half of that yet, even though one of our PCs typically has a dozen windows open in different applications simultaneously.Highly recommended!Update 2: Two and a half years later, this is still a bargain. Nothing I see offered today is as good a value as these were new. That said, we recently felt the need for improvement -- easily and inexpensively satisfied this week, as follows:1 Upped memory from 2GB to 4GB, using 2 Kingston Technology 2 GB (1x2 GB Module) 1066MHz DDR3 PC3-8500 204-Pin Single Rank SODIMM Memory for Select Acer Notebooks KAC-MEMHS/2Gon each PC. This is specifically recommended by Kingston for this model, and is the same brand as came originally. As expected, it's working well.2 Replaced original 250GB hard drives with 128GB SSDs Crucial m4 128GB 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2, one per PC. (We went with a smaller drive because most data is on a separate ReadyNAS.Note: Another version of this is offered that includes a cable for cloning the data, but instead I got Anker® Uspeed USB 3.0 to SATA 3 feet Converter Adapter Cable for 2.5 inch/3.5 inch Hard Drive HDD SSD with 12V 2A External AC Power Adapter for that. Software is also needed to clone the data. I used True Image 2013 for this. It's available for either one or three PCs. Cloning a drive is an option under its Tools menu, and could not be easier.Opening the case was easy after watching a YouTube video titled "Acer Aspire Revo AR3700 - How To Upgrade / Take Apart", but if you've never removed a mainboard from a PC (only needed to install the SSD), you might ask someone with experience to do that. So, for less than either of these cost originally, we've now improved both of them enough to last another several years.Still highly recommended!

5What you get for the extra $150.
By Wade Thunborg
The Acer AspireRevo AR1600 cost $199.99 at Amazon.com.The Acer AspireRevo AR3700 costs $349.99 at Amazon.com.I purchased both for home use. I am not a "Power User."What did I get for the extra $150? Was it worth spending more for a dual core microprocessor and newer operating system? Does it have enough power to justify the higher price? Here is why I believe the answer is yes. There is no built-in wifi with the AR1600 unlike the AR3700.The AR1600 is sold with Windows XP and the AR3700 with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. While few of Microsoft's costly changes are great improvements (Of what real use is the Aero theme or the Ribbon?), it is a more smoothly working operating system. The AR1600 handles most tasks easily, but it couldn't operate a WinTV HVR 850 usb tv tuner card. It worked perfectly with the AR3700. (This is the major reason for my purchase of the AR3700.) The AR3700 also comes with Windows Media Center. The AR1600 was adequate for everything else.P.S.1) Both the AR1600 and AR3700 have nice keyboards, but I find them a bit too small for extended keyboarding sessions, so I use a full-size Logitech keyboard.2) In your favorite search engine, type "Replay AV8". It's an inexpensive stream-recorder program. I wouldn't own a PC without it.

3Flash performance == good : Silverlight performance == not good
By Scott Kendall Mcfadden
The unit is very small and generates little noise and heat. Just be sure to not block the exhaust vent like I initially did (otherwise the fan will run harder and louder). This has several USB 2.0 ports but no ESATA port (unlike previous models). Connected to my Samsung 40 inch LCD TV via HDMI and runs well. The power button on the front is a bit mushy / unresponsive so you must press it firmly and in the dead center.Acer claims the wireless card is a LITE-ON WN6602R with an RaLink RT3390 chipset. Currently running unit with a Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless router. Win7 says my wireless connection is excellent and shows 4 bars / 150mbps. Flash 10.1 video performance is acceptable (not great but acceptable). Silverlight 4 performance is woeful. This is unfortunate because Netflix uses Silverlight to implement their streaming video. Netflix is very choppy to the point I can't tolerate it. In contrast, my PS3 and Roku are flawless in streaming Netflix over my wireless network. Don't think I blame Acer so much as I blame Microsoft for lack of hardware acceleration support in Silverlight 4. Come on Microsoft, you are on version 4 of Silverlight and still don't have hardware accelerated video? Adobe Flash 10.1 does and so should you. Be sure to ditch Internet Explorer in favor of Google Chrome on this box. Google Chrome runs circles around I.E. 8.Possible upgrades for this box might be increasing from 2gb to 4gb RAM.Here is what Acer shows for the memory: Support Memory size per socket: 1GB,2GB Support memory type: DDR3 SO-DIMM Support memory interface: DDR3 800MHz Support memory voltage: 1.5V Support to parity check feature: Yes Support to error correction code (ECC) feature: No Pin: 204 pinAnother option might be to replace the traditional hard drive with a SSD. I suspect an SSD would speed Media Center up quite a bit.Update: 11-12-2010 I attempted a few tweaks to facilitate a better viewing experience:1. Upgraded from 2gb to 4gb RAM2. Switched win7 resolution to 1280 x 7203. Upgraded NVIDIA Driver to 260.994. Upgraded from I.E. 8 to I.E. 9 beta (Some netflix is viewable some is not. Family guy is fine while Discovery Channel Dirty Jobs is very choppy).Update: 12-6-2010: Good news. ScottGu (Microsoft VP) announced on his blog (12/2) that Silverlight will finally be getting GPU support when Silverlight 5 rolls out. Check out Scott Gu's blog for more details. This should help with Silverlight / Netflix viewing.Update: 01-08-2011Still waiting for Silverlight 5. Thought I would post some more specs in the meantime:Windows 7 ScoresProcessor 3.5Memory 4.8 (with 4gb ram)Graphics 5.0Gaming Graphics 5.7Primary Hard Disk 5.8Update: 12-11-2011Installed Silverlight5 and tried my usual test of running Netflix in latest Google Chrome using Dirty Jobs by Mike Rowe / Discovery. The experience was initially slightly better but eventually intolerable. I may repeat this test in IE9 and see what happens. I also plan on trying the Zotac Nano out as well.Update: 12-31-2011Switched to a Zotac Nano. It is slightly more powerful. See my review on the Nano:Zbox Nano, Sff, Fusion, E350
