1Disappointing
By A. Novak
I was highly disappointed with this unit. I had one fail right out of the box, then when the new one was shipped I couldn't play any HD movies on the new unit. I increased the memory to 4 gig thinking that was the problem, but it did nothing at all. I tried updating all drivers, then tried using sd video, but even that didn't work. This was a complete waste of money.

5Do not Buy it
By Ali
Do not buy this product it is waste of time and money. I had bought it and it doesn't worth. I had bought the top end model they have with 3d function... the device failed to pay any HD movie and any other format in prober way.. after many attempts .. I was successful in playing HD movies only by using 3rd party product ( you must buy the player). Till now this device cannot play avi, mov, wma or any type.. the processor is slow and not working probably. Their basic answer was return the device for replacement. In my situation to send it back and receive back again i will end paying the double since I'm not living in USA o Europe.

3Decent computer (HP m9500y/m9500f)
By Eric
Edit (May 3, 2009): My review is for the HP m9500y, which has the same specs as listed for the m9500f on amazon.com. My review is for that computer only. My review also appears for the HP m9550f because Amazon.com has the two products linked.I've owned an HP m9500y for a couple months now. It's a decent PC and runs all the software I want to run (including software development tools and games, in addition to web & email, etc.); however, this computer has some bad enough quirks to make me not want to buy another one of these.I'll start out with the good things about this computer:- It's fast, and it has tons of RAM and hard drive space. Having a quad-core CPU really helps with multi-tasking and CPU-intensive software that can take advantage of more than 1 core (i.e., making use of multi-threading). Even if AMD may be falling behind Intel these days, I think they still make a very good CPU. Also, 8GB of RAM as standard is fairly rare these days in a desktop PC and is more than enough for what I need. The RAM is decently fast, too (DDR2-6400). The hard drive is also fairly large: 750GB is more than I would expect in a desktop PC at this price.- The video card (Nvidia GeForce 9500) is decent for gaming. I'm fairly familiar with gaming video cards, and as far as Nvidia cards go, I'd have preferred a 9600 or 9800, but Nvidia's 9500 card is still fairly good and runs all the games I enjoy pretty smoothly. It's nice that it has 512MB of RAM, too. In addition, the video card has an HDMI output, which I think is a nice touch - from what I've seen, that is still fairly uncommon for desktop video cards.Overall, I think the combination of the video card, quad-core CPU, RAM, and hard drive space is a very good value for the price of this PC.Now, onto the bad stuff:- The USB interfaces may be somewhat unstable in some circumstances. One time when I plugged my USB printer into one of the rear USB ports, the computer rebooted.- The microphone inputs are unacceptable, in my opinion. I like to occasionally voice chat with people over the internet, and the microphone inputs are unsuitable for that. My voice is masked behind a lot of noise using the rear mic input, and if I use the front mic input, my voice isn't picked up at all. I also like to occasionally record music on my computer, so the audio inputs on this computer are definitely not adequate. For voice chat, I ended up buying an inexpensive USB audio adapter for its microphone input, and it works well (it's one of these: Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter, C-Media Chipset, RoHS).- After only 2 months, the video card fan in my PC started to vibrate loudly. This is something I find pretty annoying, and it's disappointing that it started to happen so soon.- The motherboard's PCI Express is not the newer 2.0 standard. This could be a limiting factor if you ever decide to upgrade the video card. Many new video cards support the newer PCI Express 2.0 standard; they are backwards-compatible with PCI Express 1.0, so they would still work with this motherboard, but they would not be able to take advantage of the PCI Express 2.0 specs.Hare are some of my miscellaneous other thoughts:- The flash card reader is a nice touch. I have a couple devices (digital camera and a music synthesizer) that use flash media, and it's nice to be able to plug the media into the reader in this PC to copy the files off. My digital camera uses only USB 1.1, so this PC's built-in card reader is faster.- This PC has bays that support HP's Pocket Media and Media Drive technology. It looks like these are hot-swappable hard drives designed by HP, but I had never heard of them before I bought this PC. With USB hard drives and flash drives, I'm not likely to use HP's media/pocket drives, so these are insignificant to me.- This PC lacks a reset button. I realize the same effect could probably be done using the power button or unplugging the PC, but it's nice having a reset button in case the computer ever freezes up and you need to do a hard reset. Besides, a reset button is standard on many PCs, so it just seems odd that HP would not include a reset button.- The power supply lacks a hard power switch. Again, this is something that I think is nice to have and is included on many power supplies, so it seems odd not to have one.- The DVD burner does not seem to work with TDK double-layer media. I have a spindle of TDK double-layer DVD+R media that I had used with my old PCs; however, the drive in this computer always gives burning errors with these discs. I've found that Verbatim double-layer DVDs work fine in it though.Personally, I am disappointed in the negatives that I have pointed out. The video card fan vibration is particularly annoying. I give this PC a 3-star rating for its overall value (CPU, RAM, hard drive space, and choice of video card), but I can't give it more than that due to the negatives.Normally I like to build my own PC, but I was in a bit of a financial bind, which is why I bought one of these. If you're in the market for a PC, I'd recommend you look elsewhere or build your own PC if you are savvy enough. Unfortunately, I think the reason many of these name-brand PCs have become as cheap as they are is that some of the components they use are cheap and are lacking in quality.Edit (May 3, 2009): I contacted HP customer support about the video card fan noise and asked if they would send me a new video card. They agreed and shipped me a new video card at no cost to me via FedEx, complete with a pre-paid shipping label that I could use to ship my old card back to them. I received and installed the new video card on April 28, 2009. So far, the loud vibrating noise has not returned, and my computer is actually quieter than it was before. The new video card still says on it that it's revision 1.0, but it has a blue fan shield rather than a black shield, which suggests that they may have updated the cooler/fan design on the card.

4m9550f suits me
By Fred Wampler
I just wanted to give you a little feedback. My M9550f came in a nice sturdy unmarked package. Everything was there. So far everything has worked flawlessly. I'm leaving it on to burn-in. It is very quiet and plenty fast for my main two applications (Adobe Lightroom and Canon DPP). My peripherals all work flawlessly with it - better than with my previous (xxx) computer. The included HP software works well and is helpful. I've used it for help a couple of times. The only negative is the confusion caused by it assuming (on install) I don't have a service provider and its almost insistence on me selecting one. I think it should assume I have one and then provide suggestions if I don't.Anyhow it's a great computer. I haven't seen anything out there nearly as nice for the money. I did see a review by "a reviewer" saying I should pay $600 more to buy a Dxxx that had nowhere near the features (just a faster CPU). The reason the reviewer gave was that you got 15 months of Norton vs 6 wks and it would read Blueray disks. The M9550f reads Blueray too! 15 months of Norton is a definite disadvantage (I prefer my own antivirus and don't way to prebuy) and writing to Blueray is not important to me. So, I wrote the reviewer off.Addendum: A couple of weeks have past and the computer is still doing great. I added a 2nd internal hard drive. The drive cage was easy to access. The HD was easy to install and connect. The computer wiring was neat with everything in its place. No wiring mess at all - unlike the PCW reviewer claimed. Also, the DVD door has not hung once.

4Good product, software concerns
By Brian
Received as a Christmas gift and coming from a 2.4 ghz machine with 256 ram it is hard to make a fair comparison. The machine operates so fast that I have had no problems playing graphically intensive games for long periods while still operating 5 other programs in the background and little to no slowing.Added a wireless HP printer and external hard drive and everything was plug and play accessible as was my ancient flash drive. Now, making the switch from Windows XP to the 64 bit Vista I found many problems that mostly came about with Internet Explorer. Until Flash that is....Currently there is no Flash 10 support for 64 bit systems. Firefox allows you to run flash applets and such in 32 bit mode and for me this is not a problem since Firefox is my browser of choice but for those of you who wish to used IE and run flash the ability to run IE in 32 bit mode is sketchy at best, often crashing the entire system. Now, using the windows toolbar. Anything that requires Flash again requires you to run in 32 bit mode and to date for me all it does is crash. So as far as the machine itself it is a resounding 5 stars, for the software included I would put it no higher than 2 stars. There is more issues with programs and the 64 bit mode but they are many and often related to games and programs not keeping up with advancing technology.

5Jan 3013 update
By Dee Dee Mac
I am very pleased with this unit and really enjoy the 23" screen. The clarity is excellent; its speed is very good; it is super quiet and I have not run into any snags since installing it on February 2nd, 2010. The touch screen is sensitive and you need to beware of old habits of touching the screen to point out something to someone else or to even brush lint from it as you will activate its ability to move things around. Also I find that when I open a screen if I try to move it to one side, it will often expand it to fit the full screen. So in trying to use it as a split screen, you have to stay away from the borders because they are sensitive and will react by supersizing the screen you are working on. Not a problem, just something for retraining your brain.Coming from a Microsoft wave type keyboard I find this one cramped and I therefore hit the wrong keys constantly, but that is my personal problem due to my flying fingers and again I need to retrain my brain. I like the sleek looks of the keyboard and mouse and it is such a pleasure to not deal with all the wires. It is a very streamlined unit and I am still adjusting to its features which are many.I had not heard of Acer but must say I am very happy with the quality and trouble-free set up right from the box. I do recommend this all-in-one unit because it has features the others do not that make it more versatile and expandable. Better than a comparably priced laptop for my money and the touch screen is so much fun!January 2013 Update:Cannot believe I have had this computer for three years. I must report two problems, well actually three: 1- the sleek keyboard died and has been replaced with one that suits my typing style better so no great loss. 2- It started to overheat and shut down. I thought that was it and it would take a big repair bill to get it back up and running but that was not the case. We purchased a small fan that clips onto the top of my desk and have it aimed at the back of the computer; it comes on with the computer so when the computer is running, so is the fan and the problem has stopped. I guess in making these so sleek they had to go with smaller fans and they just don't do the job. 3- This has to do with the touchscreen again; I find that I cannot leave this computer on overnight such as when it goes into updating when you go to shut it down. The small bugs are attracted to the light and land on the screen....their weight is enough to open and/or close programs. When I get back to it in the AM I have a lot to do to get things back in order and close all the opened windows. It is funny, but it can be time consuming to get it all back where it belongs. I still like the unit though and three years is pretty darned good.

4WONDERFUL!!! But Have Had Oveheating/Shut Down Issues
By R. OSullivan
This ACER all in one is truly a pleasure to work and play on. I upgraded from a 5 year old PC and this is worlds apart. The screen is huge, the colors beautiful, the touchscreen is fun, etc. Set up was a cinch even for a novice like me. The wireless, clutterless aspect sold me. Even the speakers and web cam are built in. Only the power plug and the modem line, that's it! I haven't explored everything yet but what I've used I love. The system, Windows 7 is terrific and user friendly. I like the wireless keyboard and mouse and both feel comfortable to me. The wireless connectivity is perfect. Everything synched right up and haven't lost the connection at all. I didn't know I would still need a router (I'm not very savvy on those issues) and when I found out I needed one then I simply upgraded (for free) thru my internet provider to a newer, faster modem that includes the router in the same unit. Between the ACER and the new modem I am now wasting no time booting up, trying to open programs or connecting to websites. The computer has had no problem finding other devices such as the modem, a wireless printer I added, the wii, etc. I love the sleek design and the function. For the price, I could not be happier.UPDATE: I've had this for 6 months and still LOVE it! Not a single glitch or problem at all!UPDATE AT THE JUST UNDER A YEAR MARK: Uh, oh. My beloved computer has started shutting down on its own. I think its overheating but have received no good input from the ACER technicians in India and the phone connection was terrible resulting in bad communication. Without even trying to diagnose the problem, I was advised to ship it at my own expense to the repair center. Let's just say the conversation did not go well and I am very unhappy with ACER's technical support. Otherwise, I still love the computer.FINAL UPDATE: it was a battle but ACER took over and sent someone out to repair the computer. It works great again, I will be out of luck. I am told regular maintenance in terms of opening it up and blowing out dust should help the overheating issue.UPDATE: My computer was eventually fixed in my home by ACER. It turned out that all along I had in home repair as an option on my warranty yet the people in India did not apprise me of that. I learned through all this they have second level support in Texas, and once I was put in touch with them I could actually hear what the rep was saying. But it's only because I enlisted the seller's help, in this case Costco, that I was even put in touch with Texas. And even then, the gal tried to tell me my problem could not be resolved in home because it couldn't be reasonably diagnosed on the phone. When I told her no one ever bothered toreally find out what was wrong, she agreed to listen to my problem and then she finally made an arrangement to send someone to my home. They showed up, fixed the computer in just a few minutes and it works great. After all it was only an overheating problem and obvious to me even as a novice that the fan needed to be replaced. All is well now, but it was unduly stressful just trying to get something I was entitled to under warranty.11/2011: The same problem has arisen again. I am battling it out at the moment as ACER should replace the unit or Costco should take it back and send it to ACER. Wish it worked properly as I otherwise love the computer, but I must have gotten a defective unit as it is overheating and shutting down again for the second time. The computer is still under Costco warranty but the problem has not been resolved yet to my satisfaction. Have taken one star off because this problem has recurred again.

5Great All in One AIO
By Ai Technologies
I got this computer about a month ago it, great machine all around and it looks wonderful, I would definitely recomend this computer to any one with a small space and a need for a big monitor with a touch screen that once you get to know you have one, you would love. The keyboard is the only part of the package than lets it down but still very usable.

4Pretty Good Machine
By Nowhowtoplz
First to dispute the above reviewer about the upgrade that requires 25 restarts. Not true. This is the update from Touchsmart 3 to Touchsmart 4. There is only 1 (one) update that requires an immediate restart and that's the update installer. While all other updates will ask for a restart after each installation this is optional until you have finished with all the updates that you want. You can cherry pick which updates you want. If all you want is 5 updates you restart after that, or 10 or 20 but you are not required to restart after each one. HP says this at the end of the long list of updates at the bottom of the page. This should have been said at the top. Aside from that the machine is fun to use. It looks beautiful. Has plenty of speed, memory and storage. Cool apps. Built in webcam for Skype and taking pics.Great machine for a teen. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because HP does not warranty the touch screen. Yes, for whatever reason (hardware) if the "touch" feature stops working it is not covered under warranty. I bought my machine from Office Depot and had to buy a warranty from them which did cover the "touch" feature. I called HP to verify and finally after 10 mins. of dodging the question and being put on hold ask a supervisor I was told yes the touch screen was not under warranty. I was told the computer and screen would still be fully functional even without this feature.

3Meh
By Ike
This is the computer I could afford. It is a decent machine, for the price. Amazon doesn't tell you, but it comes with some nice touch software from HP for photos, DVDs, movies. This computer was highly rated by the leading consumer reporting agency which tests a bunch of computers and rates them in detail on their non-profit website. The manufacturer Hewlett Packard, and this agency, have the official opinion that rating Apple and Windows is like comparing apples and oranges. This is a useless statement from both of them: either the computer can do what you need it to do, and do it well, or it can't.This computer is not as good as my roommate's Mac Mini, the use of which I have been borrowing for a year. Even though his computer has half the RAM and a third of the drive (which is chock full of his music!) everything I do or want to do, works better on his machine. I play a lot of Flash-based kiddie games over the internet, this is about as good a gamer as I am. This computer needs to use a lot of its power to play these games, and even so I need to sometimes disable all add-ons and extensions on all browsers, even the touch-optimized version of IE8 that comes with the machine. HP technical support calls these games high end, and maybe to this manufacturer (or all PC manufacturers) they are, even though I've been playing them for 5 years now. But this is a medium machine in their line up and a medium high machine in that consumer agency's line up and a Mac Mini is the least of Apple's machines. You do the math. The touchscreen software (touchsmart 4)that you will get with this machine is critical that you update, according to HP. This is a four hour job that requires 25 restarts (yes, really, that's what HPs support told me, and that is how it worked), and also requires some time with their technical help, because the instructions on their website do not work, and the instrustions on the apps themselves do not apply-Windows 7 doesn't allow you to do what they say. That said, the touchscreen is good for me, because I have arthritis in my fingers. I no longer have to stop using my computer when my hand cramps. Hewlett Packard doesn't say, but you need to know, that the screen works best with a little finger oil on it already. Don't wash it unless you need to, and *save* if your cat comes near, because not only will you have to defend your keys from tromping, but a gentle tail sweep across the screen can select an entire paragrach. The computer is an all-in-one. This is good and bad. The monitor you get is better than the ones you could get if you bought separately, it is not surprise that other models in this line by HP have a TV tuner that comes with. And the sound system is great for the price, it is no surprise that other models in this line have the connections to do the whole home theater thing. It is a noisy machine, though. All PCs I have used at various workplaces have been noisy to some degree, but you can keep the tower away from you if you want. Can't do that with this machine. The screen on this thing is huge, so you could move the whole computer away from you and still see it and not hear so much of the noise...but then you couldn't use the touch features as it would be out of reach. Maybe if you weren't a previous Apple user or an audiophile like me, you won't notice the noise, but I am used to the Mac iMacs and the Mini, which only make this much noise if they are just about to die.I haven't tested the camera or microphone yet.

5Asus rocks!
By Charles Devitalis
This new Asus all-in-one is fantastic, I can't believe how much better it is than my old tractor system..(Windows Vista=BOO!)The set up was a breeze, the screen is giant AND 1080p!I shopped a lot of desktops and all in one systems but this Asus (with it's HDMI connections) is by far the biggest bang for your bucks.I could not be more pleased, thanks ASUS!

3Great computer, but Asus service needs to be improved
By Y. Erez
I have been a big fan of Asus products for about 10 years now. I ONLY buy Asus computer because they are truly the most reliable hardware manufacturer and make very high quality products. This computer is awesome, it has USB 3 ports that make my life as a computer technician so much easier, it's fast, the screen is beautiful, it looks sturdy and professional, and does everything right. However, the Asus support line is simply horrible. When you call them on the phone, before you even begin to describe your problem, you have to give them all your information so they can create your profile. This takes on average about 20 minutes since their service centers are in a foreign country, the line quality is not very good and their call center employees are not very strong on english. After you're done with that you run into their procedures that just don't make any sense on a case by case basis. For example, they don't have an advance replacement option. So if you bought this computer and it broke after 31 days, you would have to put it back in the box, ship it to them, wait for them to repair it and ship it back to you, meanwhile you are without a computer for probably around 14 days. Same goes with their routers / hard drives / laptops. Other companies give you the option to give them a credit card number they can put on hold, they send you the replacement computer, and then you use the box they sent to package your broken computer and send it back. This particular computer that I purchased had a defected keyboard. Nothing major, just a really sticky space bar. After a 45 minute conversation with 3 different Asus representatives I could not get them to send me a replacement keyboard, they insisted I send the ENTIRE computer back. Ridiculous. So in conclusion, Great computer, bad service and support.

3Bad customer service
By JT
Three weeks after getting this computer out of the box we notice the space bar and enter key stick. Doesn't seem like a big thing so we call Asus to ask them to send another. Asus customer service asks us the send the entire computer back. Really? Just for the keyboard? This is a business computer. Waiting over a week to send the entire computer to them and wait to have it sent back is not possible. So I suggested they send us a new computer and then we'll send the old one to them. They didn't like that idea either. When I asked to talk to a supervisor I was told they were unavailable and I could call them back tomorrow.I don't mean to sound like Allen Iverson but what are we talking about? A keyboard. Not a new motherboard, not a new hard drive, a keyboard. We're talking about a keyboard. Should be simple.

4Fast computer with dual monitor capabilities. Plus Windows 7.
By terry haggin
Usually I do all my work on laptops; Sony Vaio's, Dell Inspiron's, IBM Think Pad's but I recently decided to upgrade a 11 year old desktop to do web server pre-hosting plus some corporate video rendering for new DMV traffic school requirements for our traffic school, Internet Traffic School.com.Not being a computer builder, I wanted something that was 64 bit and that had a lot of available programs. I wanted to go Linux but programs are hard to find and I won't buy an Apple anything any more because they always abandon previous customers and I was burned over and over in the past with useless hardware and software.I also wanted something with at least 16 GB of memory so it wouldn't be obsolete in the next 5 years and 3.0 Ghz or more. I looked at Dell which was too expensive. We could easily afford it but since we were only going to be keeping this purchase for a short time, I wasn't going to overpay. Then we looked at Lenovo but they did not have a dual monitor capability that I was looking for so we could be rendering video on one monitor while working on company work on the other. The similar Gateway model that was around the $1,000 price range was a possibility but it had a cheap build look and our database engineer who is a computer genius said he gets people all the time at his consulting company who have Gateway computers that have just failed so he said under no circumstances buy a Gateway for company use.The Lenovo was a fine computer, solid build, plenty of memory, Windows 7 but no dual monitor outlets. It was also a quad Intel processor that is great actually and in most tests faster than the 6-core AMD.But after researching and spec comparing we decided to go with this HP six core, 3.3 Ghz, 10 GB memory because it had dual monitor capacity, blue ray video, and other benefits that no other computer had in this range. The negatives about this computer is common to all similar computers, none are flawless. Some have 8 GB limits on memory. Others no blue ray. Etc ...This computer has a slow hard drive of only 5400 and the thru rate of data is often slow due to bottlenecking issues within the motherboard design. But we can upgrade later to a 7200 speed master drive if we need to for less than $75.00. Also the power supply is marginal at 350 but no other computers that we looked at were any better. So if things get to the point where we need to we can always upgrade the power supply too for around $75.00.So all in all, we got a pretty good deal for $979 with no sales tax. I am not a gamer but need video rendering and with the new 64 bit rendering program that we are buying to take advantage of the 4 GB limit on 32 bit operating systems we should see a dramatic decrerase in render time saving us employee hours and freeing up our media staff to create other in-house projects faster. It is a good looking computer with all the current bells and whistles plus HP is an awesome company, they stand behind their products and have a fine reputation. If this computer works out, then we will be buying them for everyone in the company because these computers all have wireless cards so we can all network on our corporate network as well as on our google documents/gmail/buzz interactive collaborations.Terry Haggin[...]

5Great machine
By Darth Sabreth
I have been buying the elite machines from HP since the concept was introduced and this model is the best one yet. does what it is supposed to do and does it well. If i had to have a beef with it it would be the slow HD but that really isnt an issue unless you are a stickler for an inst boot up when you turn it on. All my programs run really fast including games. I play rift on High settings and i get decent frame rates. With all the power they put into this machine i am mystified why they would put a slow HD in such a screaming fast / powerful machine.I strongly recomend buying this PC if you want to do pretty much anything for the average user.

5Good computer. but needs new harddrive
By Kyle
This computer is amazing in every way possible. i am a hardcore gamer and programmer. the graphics, ram, processor are all great EXCEPT the slow harddrive. once you get a new hardrive with this. I went from using a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with duo core, 4gb ram, ATI 4570 hd video. it was nice but not good for gaming. i killed it 20 times then i was forced to use my moms desktop. hp dx2200 with duo core, 2gb ram, ATI 200 xpress(JUNK for what i needed). went window shopping and came by this guy. MOST computers u customize on dell or HP with the same exact stuff runs you about $1300-$1600. so this computer for that low of a price i couldn't Pass it up.TV tuner is the BOMB!!!! the TV remote it came with is good looking and EASY to use.I've now had a couple of days to play with it. i really need a new harddrive as it is SLOW on start up, data transfer, loading big programs. 5200rpm is total waste. gonna use for linux later.I highly recommend this desktop to people who play big game, big programing stuff, and much more.My VGA monitor plug is also defective but i using DVI/HDMI anyway. this desktop has 6 different combos to hook up. so one fails got 5 more.
