5Good for the price
By Daniel TX
I purchased this Desktop to replace my 4 year old desktop. My goals with the purchase was to have a PC that could handle Videos and post-processing pictures and accept some parts from my old PC.What I like:- Price: Is quite good for the performance. The HP Envy H8-1410 is a little faster but $100 more expensive. As I was going to use my old video card, the speed advantage of the i5 would not be significant as Adobe programs can use the video card processing-Hard drive: Good storage for the price. Again, I added a cheap SSD for the speed. Adding SSD improves the performance more than a minor step-up in the CPU.-Memory: came with 2 4GB DIMMs with 2 free slots, making it easier to upgrade (no need to junk any memory)-Upgradability: the case is uncluttered and easy to reach all the parts. 300W power supply is acceptable.-Windows 8: Made it a breeze to add memory, video card, network printer, HDTV tuner card, etc. It found all the drivers in the background and quickly. I did not have to reach to any of the DVDs or websites.-Wireless KeyboardWhat I didn't like:-Wireless Mouse: the batteries will run out quickly. I suggest having a bunch of rechargable batteries readily available or keep a second wired mouse available.-Windows 8: Even though plug & play worked flawlessly. It was quite hard to figure out where the stuff like control panel was. Also it works best with a touchscreen. Fortunately, I had one available so I just switched the monitors but I went from a 27 inch to a 21.5 inch in the process (I may try to see if I can clean the desktop space and keep both...)-New password system. But this is an issue with Windows 8 and not the PC.I was affraid because of the previous negative reviews, but they did not seem to be really related to the hardware. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. The trick is not getting intimidated by the changes in the Windows 8. But take some time to figure out the changes and customize the "desktop" with the apps you use the most (many are available but you have to pin them as well as unpin the junk). It was the best performance/value ratio for me (cheaper models were too slow, AMD A8 use 100W so it is harder to add additional drives, crads, etc).Final disclaimer. If you don't plan to add anything to the machine and can afford additional $100 consider going with the Intel Core i5 version that is faster, particularly for Photoshop and video (intel i5/i7 handle media better than AMD cpus).I hope this was helpful.UPDATE:Few Minor issues:1) I am using SandDisk ReadyCache and not a regular SSD. It looks like putting a regular SSD in this machine can be complicated. ReadyCache works fine.2) There are only 4 power cables for the drives (2 by 2) and the second ones is very close to the first ones. My original plan was to install ReadyCache and an additional HD (I had a 1.5GB laying around) but due to power cable for now I installed a Bluray Drive that I do not really use. I am going to try to get a power cable extender.3) Windows 8 does not come with Media Center (only Windows 8 pro) not allowing me to use my TV card fully. So it was cheaper for me to order a DVD for my old Video card with their full program ($9.95 vs $69.95 to upgrade to Win 8 Pro). My remote control still works but cannot watch TV without Media Center or Hauppage full program

1Windows system corrupted
By Smoothie
I purchased this system with the upgraded Windows 8 and transferred all of my files from the Vista HP that I was replacing. The computer ran well for about one week and it started acting up. At first it refused to go into sleep mode but would shut down and the only way you could wake it up was to hold the reset button in for 10 seconds and force a shutdown; followed by a restart. After working with HP via the internet, nothing was repaired as all their suggestions failed to work. The computer finally froze up and I had to refresh Windows and lost everything, including 5 years of email. When the system was restored, the same problems arose and I could no longer refresh or repair the system as it showed error 0xC000021a which cannot be repaired. Now, less than a month after I set up the system Amazon says they will not take it back (I would like a replacement) as it is outside of the return window. Until the bugs are straightened out DO NOT BUY A WINDOWS 8 OPEhttps://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuzaXBkSkF8u16kf7kbgUmKAkaiokxhPe8TImYDJzDL5D6xLzw-nmhTpgG9eX7VFoKEglgJFHQtdpgmYsHwi5c47FnTmybinUIQ4Z4w0sa34HAQ23lBb9Mp_Czz32ScnxzTfUvgFRBTEs/s1600/rating+4.png SYSTEN!

4What you NEED to know.
By A. Wheland
I am happy with my 2013 purchase of my new HP p7-1430. Over all a very good computer for the price. You can find better but look at the price tag. If you want a computer that should last for years with out blowing $1000+(after monitor and speakers) I think you should consider this one. Windows 8 roadblocks are most of the biggest problems with this computer but good luck getting away from Microsoft and Windows 8, for now.I will now give you the good, bad, and why some people gave bad reviews. The things I liked:- Price vs. performance is GREAT for this class of computer. The Envy is better but hey, it costs more.- Hard drive is fast for not being a solid state drive and large(2TB). Good luck trying to fill it any time soon if you are using it at home.- All the standard ports that you need for todays computer you can find on the tower including USB 3.0- Cool quiet running. I press my computers gamming and have not ever seen the computer get hot at all.- Plenty of room to add more memory later.- Office programs were included on the one I got. My last computer had no MS office programs with it so this was a plus for me.- Windows 8 is efficient at running programs and can run some older programs but NOT ALL.- CPU will over clock it self. This feature is becoming more standard on newer computer.- Graphics card on the mother board is adequate for gamming as good as most GDDR3 1GB cards. Though I bought a way better card the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7850.- System stability is good. The things I did not like:- Only one PCI express 16x.- Inadequate keyboard and mouse. The batteries on the keyboard run out too fast and the mouse lags. There was no way I could use the mouse for fast paced gamming. I'm sure most people using it for basics tasks may be some what satisfied with there performance.- Windows 8 start screen. It is annoying but that is not HP's fault. We can blame MS for that.- Windows 8 portability. I already had a Solid State Drive and found that it would be very hard(way above my comfort level) to port the OS to this drive. Again not the fault of HP but Microsoft yet again. Some reasons for the bad reviews:-It has a dual physical core with a quad logical architecture. This is causing some people confusion. The fact is many new computers are rated NOW by logical cores not physical cores, a quad is physically two, a six core is really three. The function is about the same but physically there are less cores. It's what the processor manufactures are doing. Intel doesn't even tell you how many cores there are now.-The key board and mouse are wireless. I was not totally happy with the function of the mouse and the keyboard batteries were too few and did not last long enough.- WINDOWS 8, yes the new hated windows. After learning my way around the OS it is really not bad and far more efficient running programs on then other versions of Windows I have used. The renamed "Metro" opening start window is annoying but the trade off in performance is worth it and it only takes a second to move the desk top or you get software to avoid it all together. There are potentially HUGE drawbacks though with Windows 8 as mentioned above. Windows did drop the ball on this one in my opinion.
