3Close, but go with it's cousin the H8-1435
By R. Hammer
I just received the HP Envy H8-1410 for Christmas and wanted to convey some of my initial reactions to the unit itself and its performance. I'm a long time computer person and have built several so I'm quite familiar with desktop setup and function.FIRST THOUGHTS:I first want to recognize that the HP Envy series is HP's top of the line desktop model and is at a premium price point over their Pavilion line-up. The Envy series is tied to their Beats Audio sponsorship, so all Envy products come with Beats Audio certification. Additionally, some of the finishing touches are nicer than the Pavilion series such as polished metal finishes, subtle curves, and illuminating accents. I have to say that I really like the sleek finish of the front of the case. I currently have this setup next to a desk so the unit is exposed and having the glossy black front gives it character that other desktops don't have. The packaging of the unit was fine and well protected. In standard computer desktop fashion, everything is packaged nicely in the main box and visual guides were present to aid in setup (for those that need it). It is a minimalist approach now, with very few manuals or cords supplied (power cable, keyboard, and mouse are however).TURNING IT ON:The Envy fired right up with the push of the power button (which is located on the top of the case) and it immediately went through the Windows setup. In typical HP-fasion, as soon as Windows was completed, it went through and installed all of the HP "bloatware" (16 different programs to be exact). Bloatware is all the programs that the manufacturer forces you to have during the initial installation as due to marketing agreements (and kickbacks) with those companies. While not harmful to the computer it certainly is unnecessary, but they were easily removed from the computer (once I found out where the remove programs option was in Windows 8!) It immediately recognized my WIFI Network via it's built-in WLAN card (nice touch), however I wish it took advantage of dual-band technology like the new iPad has. The processor is snappy enough to handle all of the basic things I threw at it such as web browsing, streaming Netflix, a couple video imports from my phone, etc.GRIPES:While no computer is perfect I think there were a couple obvious oversights that HP made in its "premium" lineup in this particular model. First, there is NO HDMI connector on this computer. This is a MUST in today's video heavy world. People looking to use this a home theatre PC should look elsewhere. Additionally, there is no Blu-Ray...it's a $120 option. Again, very limiting for a multi-media type PC desktop. The case is cramped...while this is more because I like to upgrade my computers, HP doesn't give you much space to get in there if you needed to. Finally, this unit boasts an integrated video card. People that have desktops today do so because they typically want to work on photos, videos, or play hard on games...all of which require a dedicated video card.CLOSING THOUGHTS:While I think the Envy lineup of HP desktops is a great looking product, I can't recommend this particular setup. Instead, I would HIGHLY recommend that you spend an additional $50 and get the H8-1435 or 1430 which comes with a dedicated video card, HDMI, and more RAM. A tiny price to pay to ensure your setup will fit your needs and give you the connectivity that today's environment demands.QUICK SUMMARY OF PROS AND CONS:PROS:-Sleek looking appearance-Reasonable price-point for a Win 8 desktop-Decent balance of memory and processor power (8GB and i5 3.0GHZ)CONS:-NO HDMI (deal-breaker)-No dedicated graphics card-No dual-band 802.11n WIFI card (single only)FINAL TAKE AWAY: Get the H8-1435 or 1430 for $50 more.**Note..the H8-1435 is available directly from HP. Amazon sells the 1430, which has HDMI as well.**

4Really Good Upscale Machine... Especially For The Price
By Kyle D. Hudson
I really like this machine. The system is up and running from the moment you press the power button, in less than 20 seconds.I saw an earlier review that says the video card suffers from low resolution...that can't be further from the truth. i'm running 1920x1080. the display resolution is dependent on your particular monitor. I really love the bluetooth feature. I have my bluetooth headset connected so I can listen to music, etc. without disturbing anyone, and it's also connected to my samsung galaxy s3 phone to transfer files easily. I also like the hp remote feature, which allows you to play movies and music straight from your apple ios or android phones. But, I also bought two hp envy laptops this Christmas for my daughters...that did not come with the hp remote feature (they could use the feature more than I could) why not???But, I do have some complaints:1. The dvd/rw eject/close button is positioned awkwardly...difficult to reach when trying to close the dvd player.2. As stated in an earlier review, it really could use a hdmi port, in case you wanted to connect it to a hdtv. But, that being said, it has two dvi outputs and most hdtvs have dvi ports included; you would just have to have another cable (depending on which connection type you wanted)to connect to your hdtv or stereo system.overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. I expect to get at least 7-10 years of use from this HP machine. this computer was a replacement for a HP pavilion 1130n machine that I bought in 2005....It's still working fine in my basement as a second computer.

4Get the H8-1430 instead for the better graphics
By Rebecca N
The HP Envy H8-1410 Desktop is a computer just begging to be upgraded from the start. It's nice at the core with appropriate processing, memory, and hard drive space. It also was magically connected to the printer on my wireless network without me doing a thing (I'm still not sure how that happened). It's smooth and sleek and runs Windows 8 nicely. A dream right out of the box.but ... The graphics on this machine are terrible. I was all excited to hook it up to my 30" dell monitor, and it's just terrible. The pixelation looks and feels like we're back in 1995. I know that I'm using a big monitor, but I feel like a desktop in this price range, loaded with video editing and multimedia software, should be prepared to handle a large monitor. The highest resolution it supports is 1280x800 which isn't enough for a 24 inch monitor either. I run that resolution on a laptop. I'm not looking to hook up a 15" monitor to this machine and I doubt many people are.So I'm off to buy a new graphics card for this. Other than that, I like this machine. However, if you're looking to buy a machine, don't get this. The next model up - the 1430 - can support a resolution of 2560x1600 - that actually comes out to four times the resolution, and is much more suitable for photos/video/editing etc. Right now the 1430 machine is only $80 more, and the resolution difference alone is worth about that, let alone that it comes with a bigger hard drive (2 TB vs 1.5 TB) and more memory (10Gig vs 8Gig). I feel like this machine, if it had the upgraded video and those additions, would be a 5 star machine. This configuration just falls very flat.Things other reviewers mentioned:- The cheap wired mouse/keyboard. I don't mind that the keyboard and mouse are cheap - better that you buy those separately and get the exact ones you want anyway, and maybe you already have what you want, so why have to pay for it again in the price of this desktop?- The lack of HDMI. That's not such a deal breaker to me. It's got DVI-D, and an adapter from DVI-D to HDMI is under $10 if you don't already have one (I'm drowning in cables, so I already had one). So it's not a big deal to me at all, because it's cheap and low hassle compared to the video card issue.I'm off to buy a new video card. And when I do, I'm going to love this.
