5Great PC value
By D. Jennings
I bought this PC to serve as the base for a home media system as well as everyday computing for my wife. I added a small (120 GB) SSD as the boot drive and turned the included 2 TB drive into storage for HD video from the Ceton InfiniTV 4 PCIe tuner card (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B4VLJQ) and I am very happy. Windows Experience Index of 6.5 (out of 7.9) and the limiting factor is the on board Intel 4000 graphics. Processor and memory score in the high 7 range. After installing the SSD, cold boot to password prompt is less than 12 seconds. The on board video is more than adequate for what I want to do, but there is a PCIeX16 slot available if you want to add your own video card. I have checked processor and memory use while recording a show in HD from Media Center and it was barely noticable, processor about 3% and memory usage 2.68 GB (of the 15.9 usable installed). Note that the included optical drive is a DVD burner, not BluRay, but there is an available exapnsion bay for that too.Mine came with a 350 watt power supply (specifications I read elsewhere indicated it might only be 300 watts) that is, so far, whisper quiet. The inside of the case is uncluttered and adding the Ceton card was simple enough, though I need a pair of pliers to break the PCI slot cover loose from the bar on the cage. Don't let the Amazon listing fool you, there are 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 connectors AT THE TOP FRONT of the case, plus 4 more 2.0 and 2 more 3.0 on the back of the machine, giving this PC a total of 10 USB connections. I swapped the included USB mouse and USB keyboard for a Logitech wireless set that used a single USB connection, added the cable tuning adapter my cable company required for full CableCard operation with the Ceton tuner card, connected a media IR remote, connected an APC UPS monitoring cable, and a local USB printer and still have a free connection on the back of the unit plus all the connectors up top for flash drives and portable devices to recharge.Asus included a little bit of bloatware, but did not make it tough to uninstall if you wish. And it is certainly not as much as I have seen on PCs from many other manufacturers. One of the more interesting addons is AICharger which is designed to fast charge Apple devices attached to the USB ports. Some of the other stuff looks kind of interesting and with the large hard drive and fast processor I've decided to let most of it hang around until I have more time to check it out. If it were hurting performance, I might be more concerned. All in all, I would say this is a great value if you're looking for a good, higher end, general purpose PC. If you're a hard core gamer, it could be great too, but most would probably want more graphics power.

3Good machine, but needs some noticeable improvements
By MPMike2000
This computer seemingly has it all - great processor, great amount of RAM at a great speed (1600Mhz), USB 3.0, WiFi, etc. etc. However, it is lacking in three very noticeable areas. First is the hard drive. Why on earth would a company use a standard 5400 RPM drive on such a beautiful, powerful computer? Everything I do (a lot of software development) is CONSTANTLY disk IO bound. I'm going to either return this PC or fork out a few hundred bucks for a better hard disk because the "stock" one is dreadfully slow.Another thing is the graphics card. Sure, 2GB vRAM looks nice on paper, but the GT 620 is barely adequate for gaming. If you only use the PC for basic tasks, its fine, but its not a workhorse by any means. It also doesn't support dual-monitors out of the box, which is a huge detriment for me.The power supply (350w) is pretty weak for heavy use as well. But I'm not going to fault them for it because I've had no issues with it thus far.The "stock" WiFi card isn't very good, as many people have noticed. Ten feet from the router and its barely a "fair" grade signal. However, upgrading the drivers did help a bit but it's still nowhere near ideal. Finally, upgrading to Windows 8 is not for the faint of heart or the uninitiated. Standard drivers direct from manufacturers (like Intel) won't work (constant "your computer does not meet minimum requirements" errors), and the instructions on the Asus website are hidden, cryptic, and written in broken English (their "search" feature is horrendous, too). It took me about two days to get the drivers right, and the Intel Graphics still doesn't work. I'm no average end user, either, having worked as a software engineer for about a decade now, so I pity someone trying to do this on their own with less experience than I.Oh, the product registration section of the Asus website is very broken. All I get are "request failed" errors when trying to submit a registration form and the entire site is full of broken English, as are a lot of the warning stickers and instructions for this computer. Lots of inappropriate punctuation, odd wordings, and commas for decimal points (yes, I know this is an international thing but this is a computer built specifically for the US market, so I'd expect some US-centric language, punctuation, and such).Taking that all into account, it's still a good computer and a decent value but it would be a lot better if Asus had a better website and if the computer had a better graphics card, hard drive, and power supply.

5Great computer
By vicky b
This computer is amazingly fast. I had a bit of alearning curve but thus far it has lived upto any expectations I have for it. I am a photographer and use Photoshop 6 and the adobe suite. Am very pleasedwith the speed at which it makes updates and filters appear. I have bought Dell's prior to trying the ASUS and find thatthis one is without glitches and I have no need to call on tech support so far...
