These are great little machines with Dual Core Processors.The Optiplex 745 was/is a top of the Line XP business machine just a few years ago and still found widely in use.The Optiplex line is the staple business machine of corporate America and one I've dealt with professionally in IT for many years. One of the great advantages of its wide use is it is often found just a couple of years later at a deep discount from resellers. Often they're stripped of the best components for lesser versions and resold. Replacement parts are therefore extremely easy to find as well. Not in this particular instance, as these are top of the line 745s with quality components and are still fantastic XP Desktops for Business or using as an HTPC (Home theater Personal Computer) for hooking up to a flat screen TV. The later is my reason for purchase. This should in no way be purchased for playing the latest and greatest graphic intensive video games as you will not get a newer high end video card to work in this machine.The particular machine I ordered came with a 250GB HD, a 3.4GHz Dual Core Processor and 2GB of system memory and a CDRW/DVD player... perfect for an HTPC.There are 2 very important things to understand when you purchase one of these machines in the SFF (Small Form Factor).First of all the power supply is slightly less than 300 Watts making your choice in PCIExpress (half-height only) add-on cards rather limited.Secondly the tight confines of the case do not allow for much in the way of internal expansion past the aforementioned half-height video card and heat buildup is a concern.Prone to failure due to heat on the SFF case motherboards are the capacitors underneath the HD and around the CPU. To my delight all the capacitors on the unit I received appeared as new. The system was extremely clean internally.Windows XP SP3 (Service Pack 3) was pre-installed as was VLC Media Player by VideoLAN (A free DVD Player), Apache Open Office (a free to download alternative to Microsoft's Office Suite) and Firefox Web Browser. All of this may vary depending on whom you purchase the PC from.At this time, there are about 122 critical system updates to Windows XP since Service Pack 3.. so you will have a couple of hours of downloading and installing patches to the system as well as updating Internet Explorer (comes with outdated an mostly useless version 6) to version 8 and of course Adobe Flash Web player as many media sites require it. The PC also did not come with any preinstalled anti-virus, which is actually my preference... as I have my particular choice which I installed before anything else.Max resolution with the built in video (Intel GMA 3000) is 1024x768 via the single VGA connector on the back. Testing out Hulu and a few other media sites with video at full screen, I experienced no stutter in any video playback with any site.DVD playback using the VLC player at full screen was also perfect.I will be making one change to the PC shortly as I've ordered the ASUS AMD Radeon HD 5450 SILENT Series with 0dB Thermal Solution and 1 GB Memory Video Card EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3(LP)to replace the onboard video.I may also remove the (greatly outdated and never used) floppy drive and mount a SSD Hard Drive there to replace the current Hard Drive to reduce heat and power usage in the case further.Many recommend flipping the front fan in the case to blow out hot air out from the front, rather than pull air in from the front due to the way heat builds up around the capacitors. I'll be making this change myself as well.The Black and Silver goes nicely with the entertainment center and this SFF case is half the size and 4x the processing power of the PC it is replacing.

The owner of the company did finally contact me and wanted to make sure that everything was fine and also had a valid reason for not getting back when I first tried to contact him, for that reason I am upgrading from 1 star to 5 stars because the computer is working great and I feel that I got a very good buy if it continues. So I am highly recommending JSM Computers.

Picked this gem up for a Christmas gift to replace my boyfriend's outdated desktop and have not been disappointed! It shipped much faster than we expected. Looks great, runs fast, and as a base model he has no complaints!
