Excelente adquisición
By Roque Correa Ghisays

a 2 1/2 star value for me

The best thing about the 27" iMac is the screen. If you can live with the limited adjustability (tilt only) and you can place it where the reflective glass does not cause a problem then you will like the 2560x1440 pixel view. You can add a VESA kit and arm for around $200 to give extra adjustability if needed. My love fades to contempt for the rest of the computer. This is my first (and most likely last) Apple computer. If you want to live in the 'Apple world' where you plug one Apple device into another Apple device you will find an ease-of-use that many folks, especially novices, like. My world has been 'nix centric for many years and the fact that OS X is based on Unix gave me some hope of a long term relationship with Apple. Alas, seems it is not to be. The tightly controlled way they operate is not what works for me in a non-Apple centric world. The keyboard is a primary object of input, I love my Microsoft ergonomic keyboards and find the non ergonomic Mac versions just OK. The Magic Trackpad offered is a fantastic replacement for a mouse , but at $70 the price seems high. Too bad the Magic Mouse included with my unit was the only option at the time of purchase. You will have to live with Windows 7 as the only option when running Boot Camp. They dropped support for XP and do not (will not?) support Windows 8. You can purchase software that will add virtual machine capability for other operating systems but these list for $75-$80 each (only one is needed and then you can run the OS(s) of choice). Be aware that Apple doesn't want you to use your Mac computer without OS X installed. Booting as a Windows only (or other non OS X software) operating system is a challenge to set up successfully , most people will not want to work through it.Oh, don't forget your extended warranty or you will find the cost of a simple repair part is WAY over priced. Most items cannot be replaced by a non Apple service tech 'cause they just won't sell you an something like an optical drive. For a replacement DVD they want to charge you $250 , $150 for the price for an optical drive and $100 for the labor to install it. The $80 external USB optical drive they currently sell will NOT work on a computer that originally had an optical unit built in. Thereby forcing you to pay them $250 to install their drive. Hope any repairs happen within the warranty period or you will be spending $100+ per hour for certified Apple labor.Everyone has an opinion of easy/hard good/bad expensive/inexpensive and what make something a 'value'. I have been happy with Linux for many years and can easily duplicate the iMac in performance/usability for a much lower cost. And when a part does go bad , the availability of inexpensive replacements is more valuable to me that what Apple wants to force upon me. Not having to box it up and take it to a service shop and wait several days is a bonus.Know your options and the respective limitations before spending any money.Yes, a non-Apple USB external DVD drive can be added but it too will have some issues compared to the internal unit as does a different brand of keyboard. My opinion , based on my experiences.PS as of March 15 2013 Bootcamp 5 supports Windows 8 , it will not run on a 2009 iMac though.

Curious pricing and description
By C. J. Thompson
The i7 iMac is a great product, but I am skeptical of this offering by Amazon. First, it is offered through 3rd party suppliers. Second it is priced ~$1000 above the same product sold directly from Apple, and 3rd, it is described to contain a Radeon graphics processor model not offered by Apple. They may be substituting an older and less capable model. Caveat emptor.
