I wanted to purchase an HP with Windows 7 before the point I couldn't find a desktop with that operating system. Unfortunately this HP was bad out of the box. It didn't boot out of the box but after a cold start it did boot. I loaded software, used it for a day, but it continued to have boot-up problems. By day 2 it wouldn't boot at all. The lights were on but nothing happened. So, I returned it. On a positive note, the Amazon return process (so far) seems to be painless (other than carrying the problem PC to the nearest UPS).

I am very pleased with the computer, even just out of the box, it was very fast and it does all I need it to at the house. I have since added a solid state hard drive to it, and it boots up and runs even faster.

I received this computer quickly and it was in fine shape working right out of the box. I ran it for several days[switching out my quad core AMD that I use as Audio/Video computer in my living room for downloading and streaming videos on the TV and web surfing in the front room]to burn it in to make sure it wasn't defective in any way. I will be replacing my old Pentium 4 desktop located in my office,that I built myself from spare parts that I had. The old girl is getting a little long in the tooth. I have not switched it out yet with the new HP Pavilion h8-1240,as it will require some time for me to back up all the applications and data that I don't want to loose. It is still running windows xp and it works fine but I would like more speed as I have a new 50Mb cable internet connection that it really can't keep up with. I will write up another review as I get set up in the new year and switch it over. So far it appears to be everything that I expected and I am looking forward to the new speed improvement and disc capacity. USB 3.0 is great too,compared to my old computer. I think the [AMD FX-8120 bulldozer 8 core processor] is quite competitive in performance to the Intel i7 higher end processors[like Core I7-2600@3.4Ghz] and gets a best buy rating from the Passmark benchmark web site. I have found trying to buy the best performance processor at any time is a losing game, as one week after you buy it there is a better processor released by AMD or Intel, but that is just my opinion. I am a retired engineer and not a gamer, but still like to look under the hood. I have some demanding applications like Strategy Desk which is a financial application for backtesting investment strategies that require some major horsepower to get the job done. This computer works for me and I am very satisfied so far. Amazon is great and is my first choice for online shopping.
