5Spectacular display and loaded with features
By Terry
I was vaguely looking for a new desktop computer when I came across this Lenovo B520e All-In-One. The price was unbeatable (on sale on another site) and the features seemed almost too good to be true so I hit the order button. I called my uncle, who was looking for a new computer, and he ordered one also. I've had desktops, laptops, netbooks and tablets, but never an All-In-One. Since I have built all of my desktops myself, I wondered how easy it would be to replace a hard drive or add memory. Still, the price was great and it had many extra features I was attracted to so I decided to take a chance.Let's run down the features: a 3.3 GHz Core i3-2120 processor - not the latest and greatest but certainly respectable, 4gb RAM - upgradable to 8gb maximum, 500 gb HDD, 23" full HD display that is ALSO touch screen, wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, webcam, wireless n Wi-Fi card, CD/DVD read/write drive, integrated Dolby 5.0 speakers, HDTV tuner with remote, an Ethernet port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port, Coax jack, microphone and headphone jacks and a 5 in 1 card reader. It comes with Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit installed and assorted other Lenovo and Microsoft software. There is even a VESA wall mount included so that you can have a completely clear desktop if you wish!Unboxing and setup was a snap. Plug in the power cord and push the power button. The Bluetooth keyboard and mouse synced instantly and I was up and running. The display is dazzling! Stunning colors and beautiful definition. The touch screen works flawlessly so far. If you have ever used an iPad, iPhone or iPod, you will easily master the touchscreen. If not, there is a tutorial included in one of the pre-loaded apps. The speakers produce incredibly rich, clear and full sound. Granted, I've been using a laptop for the last couple of years and those speakers are notoriously bad, but these speakers really sound like a good home theater system. The graphics are integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000. It's perfectly suited to watching TV or streaming video but this is not a gaming machine and there is no way to add a discrete graphics card. If you think you may want to play graphics intensive PC games at some point, look further because this system will not deliver what you need. You can certainly play many, many games on this system, but not hard-core PC games.Lenovo is a class act for not filling this thing with loads of bloatware. There are only trial versions of McAfee Antivirus and Microsoft Office Starter, which I promptly deleted and installed my own antivirus software and Office Pro. There are a number of Lenovo apps installed designed to help you use and enjoy your webcam and the touch screen display, including some silly but kind of cool games. Google chrome is installed, too, but other than that, it's a clean system. The keyboard and mouse are very, very nice. I'm picky about my keyboards but this one is quite acceptable. They even came with the batteries! (No batteries for the TV remote, though). The entire unit is sleek and compact. It takes very little space on your desk and the display has an adjustable stand so that you can change your viewing angle. The display also automatically adjusts the brightness in response to the ambient lighting. If I used the included VESA wall mount to hang this on the wall, I could have a practically empty desktop! The TV is an added bonus for me. I am not using it as such right now because there is no coax cable anywhere near my desk but I did connect it just to test and it worked brilliantly. My house has a metal roof and this is nowhere near a window so I didn't pick up any over the air channels, however it does scan for them. It even features PIP (picture-in-picture)! Amazing.I chose to upgrade the RAM immediately and I recommend that for getting the most out of this machine. For $21 I purchased another 4gb stick of RAM. (The RAM you need is 4GB 1333MHz SO DIMM. It is the small outline, 72 pin DIMM). There are 2 memory slots and fortunately, Lenovo didn't cheap out by installing two 2gb sticks. It comes with one slot filled with 4gb so you can add another 4gb stick and greatly improve your performance. It is very easy to open the back of the machine and install the RAM. There is an included booklet illustrating how.The 500gb hard drive is a little on the small side but that didn't bother me much. I have begun saving all of my work and writing my routine back-ups to a portable, USB drive anyway. That way I have my data available to me wherever I go. For just under $100, I bought a 1TB portable drive that is USB 3. USB 3 is so fast that I perceive no noticeable difference between writing to that or to the internal hard drive. And there are two USB 3 ports on the back of this system!I was going to keep this computer in my home office, but it's just too cool not to share. It's a perfect "house" computer for me and my children to use throughout the day. The lack of cords and the sleekness lets me place it in the living room in very little space - ready for anyone to use at any time. My uncle and his wife are just as happy with their system and have had no problems so far, either. My only complaint is the lack of documentation. The included users guide is almost an afterthought. That's fine for me because I am comfortable and familiar with computers, but it could be a problem for less computer savvy users. I believe some people might not even discover many of the exceptional features due to the poor documentation. I also haven't found an online tutorial or anything of that nature so I think this is all there is. I hope Lenovo will consider at least an online introduction video to demonstrate all of the wonderful things this system can do.I have not had to contact Lenovo tech support or customer service yet so I cannot comment on that. If I ever have to, I will update my review to include that.Bottom line: this is a beautifully sleek system that will dazzle your eyes and ears as well as clear off your desktop. I believe it would be particularly well suited for a family with multiple users or a person (student?) with limited space, but it would be excellent for anyone but hard core gamers and perhaps power users since the processor is not the latest i7.

5Everything and more.

The Lenovo All-In-One was so easy to set up and then transfer my files from my old computer. I am a novice at computers but Lenovo was a breeze with it's WiFi. I am delighted with this purchase.

1Problems with hibernate- then machine will not wake up
By elizamark
I bought this computer in late Sept. It has a very nice display and worked as you would expect. The price was right at the time ($640). Within the first month I had problems with the computer going to Sleep mode and becoming unresponsive I either had to unplug the machine or hold the start button down for 5 seconds to reboot the computer. Frustrating yes, but the machine still worked. After approximately one month I was unable to boot the computer at all.I called and spoke with Customer Service (CS) and they were not able to help me over the phone so they sent a third party repair person to "fix" this issue. On arrival (he spent 2 hours with the machine), he was unable to start the machine. He said they had "approved" a replacement of the screen. He replaced the screen and was not able to get the computer to start. On questioning, he (nor apparently the company) did not realize this was a "touch screen". He explained he put the wrong part on the computer but it did not fix the issue anyway. He called the CS reps and said they would be in touch via telephone within 7 days with instructions for me to send the unit back to the factory for warranty work. 10 days later I called and was told the information was sent via email. Apparently it went to my "junk mail". So I had the rep send it to me while I was on the phone, and found it in my junk mail. The rep apologized and promised a 7 day turn around.Sent it to the factory repair service on Dec 18, 2012. Called 27 Dec for status update. Them: "We're sorry sir, it is still being worked on. Me: "What about your promised 7 day turnaround?" Them: "Well, they have been busy over Christmas, call back in 5 business days and it should be ready."Called back 6 business days later. Was put on hold for 20 minutes after I went through their awkward identification process. He came back on and said, "It is in line for quality control. Call back in 3 days.Called back three days later and was told the part needed was out of stock. Asked to speak to someone who could get me a replacement. He said someone would be calling in 5 business days. Got a call from CS (the same guy I spoke to earlier)that same day who had me repeat my whole story. He then said he would escalate "to the highest level of customer service" at the call center and someone would contact me in 5 business days.6 days later I call because no one has contacted me. I demand to speak to a supervisor and "none are available", "but I can help you". This guy was the worst, not apologetic, instead condescending. I asked to speak with "someone who could help me". He said he could not help me if he did not know the problem. I said he have reams of information about my problem, he said he needed a concise statement of my problem. ... "I bought a Lenovo". At that point he put me on hold for 30 minutes and came back on and said he had transferred the account to Lenovo's highest level of customer service outside the department. I explained I had been told that in the past and had many, many broken promises from CS. He explained basically, nothing gets done with customer service until it leaves that department. I should expect a call from a CS Supervisor outside the department in "5 business days". Yea right!Yesterday, on the 4th business day I received a call from Greg. He was professional, apologetic and said he would send a replacement for me as soon as I could provide a receipt. I sent that today. In summary, promises that are not kept. Long wait time with CS. Very difficult to speak with anyone above the phone person WHO HAS NO POWER and little customer service skills. My guess, more of a techie than a true CS person. There is no excuse for a Lenovo third party to place an LCD screen which was not a touch screen. There is no excuse for a 46 day (and counting) turn around without the company making contact. I will not be purchasing from Lenovo in the future and will keep everyone posted on final outcome.PS Check your junk mail if you have warranty problems...
