4First HP experience
By SixBurgh
As of this review my HP p6710f has been working fine and have not had any problems. My box was equipped by HP with a Seagate brand hard drive. I did see an in store p6710f with a Western Digital brand hard drive so HP uses at least two manufactures. The computer is relatively quiet as far as fan noise but with the hard drive mounted vertical against the side of the tower a little hard drive vibration is heard if you place the box on a desktop. This is nothing to complain about and is a minor issue. Graphics using the system supplied ATI integrated video card are clear but I am not a gamer so can't comment in that area. This is my first experience using an AMD processor as I've been using Intel for years but this chip runs rather cool and have no complaints so far. I read online reviews about this particular processor and found them to be positive. The side panel to access the interior of the box has only one screw on the back holding it in place but the inside has plenty of room for upgrades if needed. If a new video card is ever added this system only has a 250W power supply. If looking for a mid-line budget pre-configured computer for internet and office related work this unit will serve you well for the money.

5Met all of my expectations.
By P. Buran
I decided to follow through with my PC upgrade but was not able to spend too much money. This particular configuration just happened to be a perfect fit (i also got one while it was on sale, so im even happier). It feels great to be running all my stuff on a quadcore now after having Pentium 4 for too long. Actually, my main criteria for selection were the processor and RAM and Athlon 640 combined with 4GB Memory is plenty for my purposes. Having 1TB drive is awesome as well since I do not have to worry about running out of space any time soon. I do play some demanding video games so I already had a more or less decent GPU (Radeon 5670) and a 430w power supply (i believe this one has 250W), both of which I installed as soon as opened the box. The result - I got myself a pretty hot rig while staying on a tight budget. Games like Left 4 Dead, Modern Warfare and Battlefield2 run smoothly with highest levels of details. The only thing that took me sometime to adjust was switching to Windows 7, which feels a lot different from XP - the system i've been running all the while since it was introduced. But I am beginning to like it, so its working out OK. 7 seems pretty stable and is definitely very much appealing in terms of graphics.Basically, I think this PC would be a great buy for people looking to do basic computer stuff - its got all the faculties. However, if you are planning to play some recent titles you should definitely look into investing in dedicated video card and a stronger power supply unit.

3Excellent Computer, Lousy Software
By S. A. ROBBINS
If you are a casual user and primarily use a computer for Internet or storing the kids pictures then this HP will be an excellent computer. As is the practice with most new PCs, this HP comes with bloatware. Bloatware is software that is essentially trial software put on the computer to get you to buy the real software which usually isn't worth anything. I removed most of what I could but some may be integrated into the system such that you cannot remove it. I guess if it makes this computer less expensive then it is only a minor irritation. The computer itself worked without any problems. But it also does not come with any System CDs so you will need to create those yourself. The Recovery Software is on the Hard Drive but if that fails (and hard drive's do fail) then you are without an Operating System and that is why you need to make backup System CDs. What is odd is that to do that requires DVD+/-R discs, you cannot use +/-RW discs which I already had so I had to spend another $8 for a pack of 5 but you will only need 3.If however, you are a developer or tinkerer and are coming from Windows XP then you will be in for a rude awakening with Windows 7. It does not come setup with you as the Admin and you will need to make a number of changes to get that access. And even then you will still not be able to access everything. And do not even think about using EasySoftware via USB to transfer your old files as it doesn't really work. And to enable XP and Win7 computers to talk to each other on a network is almost impossible. I had planned on using this HP computer primarily as a backup to my current XP computer but the only way that is going to happen is to setup dual boot (XP and Win7) using XP Professional. I tried to find an equivalent PC with XP but they are no longer available (at least not new and not at a reasonable price). If you need to run Windows XP on this computer, that will not be possible. This HP p6710 has an AMD processor and you would need a specific version of XP Professional for this PC and I'm not sure that even exists. I ended up selling this computer (at a loss) and buying a Lenovo with an Intel Pentium processor and was able to load XP Professional into it. On the Lenovo computer I am now able to dual boot into either Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 (64bit).I compared about 20+ computers (around this price range) for features, hardware and performance and chose this HP because I found it on sale. Even not on sale, it still ranked near the top of all the computers I compared. With a 3Ghz Quad Core processor, 4GB of memory, a 1TB drive and wireless networking, it is very well equipped. Overall a very nice and powerful computer at a reasonable price. It's useability depends on what kind of computer user you are.
