4Stylish & Small: Good value & performance for the price
By Robert Eames
I had a Windows Vista Media Center computer that had served its purpose for many years but was now in need of a performance upgrade. The decision was whether or not to upgrade components or replace it. We use the machine in our living area for video streaming (from YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.), listening to music, and checking email. We decided to replace it.What I like about this Lenovo desktop computer is it is small & stylish. Compared to the previous machine, the small footprint and brushed chrome front looks nicer next to our TV. (I was not interested in one of the integrated desktops with monitor because we connect the computer to our flat panel TV)For the $$$, I got what I paid for: it is just an i3 processor with integrated graphics. It works well for how we use it. We purchased separately & added a Medialink Wireless N adapter to connect it to the Internet.Windows 8 is clunky and not ready for prime time but I have been able to make it work for my needs. It is clear the primary targets for Windows 8 are mobile devices with touch screens. The absence of a Start button was an impediment - but problem solved with the installation of 3rd party software such as Classic Shell (interesting to see the spike in Classic Shell downloads as of the release of Windows 8! - that is a software usability study unto itself showing the usefulness & convenience of the Start button & menu). Windows 8 is pushy to try to get me to signup and sign on with a Microsoft account; I decided to use local user accounts instead but that is not the default option. For many of the default apps (presented as tiles in the Metro UI) such as the Store, Email, Messaging, etc., a Microsoft account appears to be required so that makes the apps of limited usefulness to me. The Music app is clunky and using a mouse it takes many clicks to do most things (why can I not type ahead to find an artist in my Artists list? Instead I have to click on Search and use the search input box. when I build a Playlist, why is it separate and unavailable when I proceed to Windows Media Player? why do I have to click twice to get an Album or Song to play - I click it and then I click Play once it is highlighted. to reorganize songs in a Playlist, at first I missed the little up and down arrows displayed on the left edge of the boxes surrounding each Song; I wrongly thought I could grab & move the boxes representing each Song. All these usability items appear to me to be because of the choice to target the OS for mobile devices with touch screens.) Funny to read the commentary elsewhere: Windows XP (great!), Windows Vista (horrible), Windows 7 (great!), Windows 8 (not so good!) ... so Windows 9 should be amazing! All in all a cost-effective computer fit for my needs. This computer is not for everyone but it fits for my requirements - the small footprint and slower processor means it is not as flexible in terms of upgrades and it is not designed for gaming and that is ok with me for my use of this particular machine. I've had good support from Lenovo over the past few years as I use Lenovo Thinkpad laptops and had battery issues that they addressed right away. Windows 8 is painful at first but some of the usability issues can be addressed by installing 3rd party software such as Classic Shell and placing the Desktop tile in the Metro UI at the top.

5Reliable, Quality Built, Lenovo doesn't fail to bring home the bacon.
By Peter
Ever since my Thinkpad I've been Lenovo for life. For the price, this is the best desktop out there for anybody that needs to get basic stuff done, and even some fun. Bought this bad boy for my mom and put in 8gb of RAM and it works like a CHARM. She uses it primarily for watching TV online and reading the news, as well as running her own music teaching business (sending emails, word documents, excel, etc). Very solid computer. Comes with one of Lenovo's famously awesome keyboards (wired). If you're looking for doing any GPU intensive work maybe keep looking but for everything the average computer user needs, this computer EXCELS!

Works faster and more efficently than my previous PC. Runs really quiet. Does not take up a lot of desk space
