I read through some of the reviews and I'm shocked of what people expect for $230. This desktop is a LOW END desktop. Bottom of the barrel. No extras at all. For most, it'll do just fine. It's a slim tower which allows it to be placed in small locations, however, be aware that you want to keep the side vent unblocked so the system runs cool. This system is not going to handle a lot, but for the average user that browses the web, create documents and sends e-mail, it's just what you need. Don't waste your money on anything else. The life expectancy on a system like this is probably only 2-3 years, but for $230 it's really not bad at all. Remember to keep the vent free and clear and you should be alright.

My department was axed and now am looking for work. Needed a PC because all my machines were owned by my company.I wanted the most inexpensive PC that I could find because in this economy I needed money for other things. Someone mentioned Emachines. Did some reserch and found they got pretty good reviews.I ended up purchasing a reconditioned (used) one. I also purchased a replacement plan in the event I have problems.I've been in IT for over 20 years. I know about computers because that's been my job. Emachines, based on my research, give good computing for the money. Not necessarily the *best*, but pretty good. These are not for gamers. These are for people who want to do email, visit sites like Facebook, and watch videos.Don't turn your nose up at this just because it's inexpensive. Do your own research. See what you find and make your choice based on that. Reasearch via Bing or Google. Look at sites that have tested these machines.Realize also that *any PC* can be a lemon. Make sure where you purchase it will give you good service in case of problems. Also make sure you have a good warranty for at least a year.If, like me, money is very tight consider one of the inexpensive PCs. Do your reasearch *first*.FYI: Emachines is owned by Gateway. I am very pleased with this computer. I was surprised to see just how small the tower was but it works well ans saves space.
