ASUS Essentio CM6730-US-2AD Desktop
By D. Carlton
This is an excellent computer. I don't know what the real issues are for some of the other reviewers, but I have used this computer for the last 6 months for 10 hours a day (work from home) and it is excellent. The current price is $100 less than I paid. For those that don't know, Asus quite often ranks first for reliability among non-Apple PCs (Apple usually is tops but not by much and you pay a steep premium - great product though). Asus is one of the largest manufacturers of motherboards and other components, which have a very good reputation among builders. This computer has an Asus motherboard and runs internally at 6 Gbits/sec (SATA III), has a 7200 1 TB RPM HD, and 2 of the 6 USB ports are USB3, which is 10 times faster than USB2. Has 4 GB RAM and can take 8 GB, which is probably enough for 99% of users. An i5 processor probably provides the best bang for the buck, but for the price, performance (the i3 2120 processor is no slouch - runs photo editing applications very quickly), and expected reliability, this is a very good choice IMO.You have to remember that some reviewers may have other agendas when they post either glowing reviews or ones that are less than stellar. For one of the reviews here, I am pretty sure that I saw almost the identical review for this machine on Newegg 6 months ago, so the reviewer gets around. Do your own research to confirm what I posted. I bought my computer through Amazon and it was well packed (double boxed).

Good machine for the price
By DPC
Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase. ASUS makes a solid computer at a good price. The RAM is fine, but at 4GB it may require upgrading in the future (there are two slots and one is filled). 1TB of storage is standard but appreciated. Six USB ports with two in the front is also standard but appreciated. I don't have any USB 3.0 devices, but it's nice to have two ports for the future -- just in case, I guess.I wish I had a gigabit internet connection to take advantage of the port this computer has. Still, the internal wireless card works well, getting as good reception as my Macbook's wireless card. The one thing that disappointed me was the performance of the (integrated) Intel HD graphics, which rated 4.4 on the Windows experience index. The computer's fan would blow away as I streamed internet media on my TV (via HDMI) while working on my desktop. I'm not a gamer, but it cannot handle even older / lower-intensity games on higher settings. Also, Intel's driver is clunky and didn't handle my two-display setup very well: any time I turned on the TV, my computer monitor would blink off and then on again as the card/driver organized things. Not liking the user experience, and not wanting my motherboard to work itself to death, I solved this issue by buying a fifty-dollar graphics card (there are many out there, but I got one made by ASUS/NVIDIA). My Windows experience index for graphics jumped from 4.4 to a 6.6, and I've played several games on high settings with nice results. NVIDIA's driver also handles multiple displays seamlessly.Aside from that issue, this computer is exactly what I was hoping for. If it can last, and my experiences with ASUS say that's a likely outcome, then it will have been well worth the cost.

Excellent computer for student or small office/home office
By David
I didn't expect to get such a great computer in this low price range, so I was pleasantly surprised. I use my computer primarily for Internet browsing and creating and storing documents. On rare occasions I burn or play discs. This computer is plenty fast when performing all of those tasks that I use it for. I do not play games on my computers. The ASUS name attracted me because I know that it means quality, performance, and reliability. I learned the hard way from a virus that disabled another computer to keep critical files stored on at least one external drive, so that's what I do. After doing all of the updates to get this computer set up, it had 332 GB free of 372 GB on WIN 7 (C:) drive and 540 GB free of 540 GB on DATA (D:) drive. The free space on (C:) drive decreased to 327 GB after I loaded the office software suites that I use. Considering the way I use my computer and store files externally, I think that's more free space than I'll ever need. It required 5 blank DVD+R discs to create system restore discs when setting up this computer. The only problem I have experienced has been several connection failures when using the installed wireless card with the included antenna. That could have been caused by any of several problems from my Linksys WRT54G wireless router being too far away to interference or something else unrelated to the hardware of the computer. I already had a long shielded ethernet cable, so I solved the connection problems by connecting that cable. The general product description from ASUS that mentions an included wireless keyboard and wireless mouse is incorrect. Both are USB corded devices. My experience has been that corded mice don't last long, so I recommend getting a good wireless mouse such as the Logitech M510.One minor annoyance is that a blue and yellow shield icon appears in the status bar sometimes to request permission to allow Liveupdt.exe to make changes to the computer. Liveupdt.exe is ASUS LiveUpdate. I trust updates from the manufacturer and would prefer that they just load without asking my permission
