I had this computer for about a year. I purchased it locally from someone whose business was closing.Specs:Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6 GHz80 GB 7200RPM HD4 GB RAM (upgraded from 1 GB) 240-pin DDR2 PC2-6400DVD-RWIntel 3100 Integrated Graphics8 USB 2.0 portsWin XPThis computer was great while I owned it. I was sad to sell it, but I have too many computers. I recently purchased a jewel that someones was getting rid of (HP Pavilion p6000 series with Athlon X 2, 8 GB RAM!!!!) for peanuts.Anyways, in the year that I had it, it never gave me one bit of trouble or frustration. No blue screen of death, no lagging, no crashes, no weird noises. It ran extremely quiet. I could barely hear it while it was on. Other reviews I have read are that some other Dells run even quieter as components have rubber mounts.This computer runs WinXP like a dream. Although it is about 4-5 years old, it is very fast with internet surfing (I use Chrome, FF, Opera), basic word processing. I am not a gamer nor do video/photo editing so I cannot comment on that.I also installed Ubuntu 10.04 with Compiz effects and it was an easy intall. I have been told that Dells are generally very compatible with Linux. Also, puppy linux was installed, and it runs faster than any other OS.This is an excellent computer for internet, youtube, word processing, watching DVD's.This is not an Apple vs PC debate, but I haven't suffered the Windows slow down or virus infestation that others write about. I have Macs that I work with running Snow Leopard, and as in the stupid Apple slogan, "This Dell just works". I have no issues with Mac OS X, but perhaps as I learned Windows first, I tend to prefer it over Mac. The system is so snappy, even with MS security essentials running in the background. I don't store a lot of junk on my HD, so I'm sure that helps with it running smoothly. I defrag the disc and run CCleaner periodically.The only thing that would have been nice is if there was an internal speaker. I would have also liked dual video outputs for a dual monitor setup, but aftermarket video cards are available for upgrade. Also, 80 GB is a little low for some people who have a lot of videos or music, but it's not an issue for me. An HD upgrade would be simple or an external HD is another option.
