5Great, depending on what you need it for.
By Bcj
(I bought this computer for $450 at Staples.)This hp has a 3.1gz AMD Athlon II quad-core processor,6gb memory (Ram),a 1TB (1000GB)internal memory, an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics with up to 2943MB shared memory, Windows 7 64 bit home premium (only comes with Microsoft Word and Exel),and wireless internet connection. I am in 9th grade and I bought this computer because I was tired of having to share the home computer with my two little sisters, and I wanted privacy. It came with a keyboard, and a mouse, so i had to buy a monitor separately. When I first saw this, I was a little surprised at the features on this computer for the price. Our home computer is old and after i bought this, I'm probably never going to go on our home computer again. This is a great computer for the average person, and i can handle the average game. If you are looking for a cheap GAMING computer, then I suggest replacing the video card. I have fallout 3 for my HP and it runs very smoothly, but on low video quality. The video card for this HP is built into the motherboard,so installing a new video card should be easy, but if you are not planning on gaming, this is not needed. Overall, this is a great, and cheap computer for the average person. But for gaming, an additional video/graphics card may be necessary.

5Great desktop, great price
By Trebor Mints
HP Pavillion P7-1010 Desktop ComputerI had originally purchased a Sony laptop, but after it and a replacement both failed, I decided to go back to a desktop PC: I didn't like the puny 15" screens, the feeble loudspeakers, nor the tiny keyboards on laptops.I purchased the HP p7-1010 a couple of months ago and it has been a joy, with no issues at all since day one. It's fast (quad-core processor), has an absurdly large hard disk (1 terabyte, or 1000GB), and is quiet in operation. There are four various types of memory-card slots and 6 USB ports. The graphics card is integrated, not stand-alone; so if you are a gamer, you might prefer to upgrade to a separate graphics card. I don't play graphic-intensive games; so this was not an issue for me. All I care about is that Netflix movies stream perfectly well, which they do.One thing to note is that the case itself is quite large (approximately 15" high, 16" deep, 6.5" wide) so you do need a sufficiently large area to keep it on. I keep mine on a small, low table (12" high) next to my desk; so the size is not noticeable as the top of the PC is below the level of the desk. (There are smaller versions of desktop PCs, but my reading suggests that these are more prone to overheating than the full-size versions, since they cram the same amount of equipment into a much smaller space.)Regarding reliability, Consumers Reports places HP in the middle of the pack, along with Compaq, Dell, and eMachines. If you are looking for a full-size desktop, this might work very well for you.(BTW, I was new to Windows 7 and found the brief video tutorials on Microsoft's website very helpful in getting up to speed and learning all the nifty shortcuts.)

4Beautiful computer for a reasonable price
By J. E. Meredith
Let me preface this by saying that before I purchased this last week, I was using a 2005 eMachines desktop which had been rebuilt by a computer-savvy relative. I may be easily impressed by some features that users have had for a long time. I don't know how long Windows 7 has been out, but I've been using Vista for the past six years, so this was definitely an upgrade for me.The Pros: The price is great, in my opinion, for how much faster and more efficiently this computer works than the ones I worked with on a daily basis (whether at home or work.) I love the flat screen monitor- it's huge! The picture is crystal clear. The PC is aesthetically pleasing, as well, with a sleek black design. The speakers are compact and have great sound. This computer has twice the memory my old one did, so I'm really excited about that. I also needed to contact HP tech support twice since purchasing my computer (more on that later) and they were extremely helpful and patient. Well, the first guy I talked to was. The second guy was fine, too, but he kept trying to sell me stuff, and that was a bit annoying. The Cons: I purchased my computer last Wednesday (August 3). Late Friday afternoon, I began having some trouble with it. I tried to wake it from sleep mode, and I could only see the background image- no task bar, no icons, no start menu, no matter what I tried. I restarted it several times and nothing changed. I had to contact tech support, and we spent a little over an hour trying different things to get my computer to work. Eventually we had to get into safe mode to save my files on a flash drive, and then we did a factory reset. After that, the computer worked fine- until the next day. We had a few more instances where this mysterious desktop problem occurred, but we were able to fix it by restarting the computer. Then yesterday (August 10, after 7 days of ownership) nothing would come up on the computer screen. It was just black. I tried restarting it several times, to no avail. I called tech support again, and we determined that the hardware was in pristine shape, but the software obviously had a flaw. The technician tried to get me to upgrade to Windows Home Premium, which irritated me for a few reasons. One, I don't have any money- this computer was purchased with an inheritance check, which is now gone. Two, the product that Microsoft gave me SHOULD work. It had only been a week- not years of use. So we tried another factory reset, and that didn't even work this time. I was told that I should exchange the computer at the store from which it was purchased for the fastest result- if I called Microsoft, they would likely have me do the same things I had already done twice with HP and then take time to possibly send me replacement software. So the computer has been exchanged, and so far, it's working beautifully. That being said, if we run into the same problem (hopefully we won't) I will definitely be revising this review.
