Great bang for your buck in a compact package.

With a limited budget, I set out to replace our deceased desktop PC that had laid dormant for more than a year. I went the separate component route, and purchased a View Sonic 22in monitor, Altec Lansing speakers, and a wireless mouse (trying something different). For the price for the Acer AX3910-U3012($449), I believed this was the best value on amazon. Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB RAM, 3.0 GHZ Intel processor, generous 640 GB hard drive are some of the highlights for this budget-priced PC.As far as performance, I can't complain. 5 USB connections in the back, 4 in a hidden panel up front (along with headphone input). A nifty housing for the dvd-rom drive, which completely hides it until you hit the open/eject button. Connecting my external hard drives, and listening to music with headphones was simple, convenient. Startup, shutdown, overall performance is what you'd expect from a brand new PC- quick and smooth. This brings me to my one issue with this Acer PC, and it might not be entirely the fault of the manufacturer, but with Microsoft's Windows 7 integration with the other hardware and software. A noticeable clipping, skipping of audio was dominating my first test runs with movies, music, whether through my speakers or headphones. It was beyond annoying, especially seeing as I primarily use my PC for video and music. I read about this exact issue on a number of threads from various message boards from the past year, and I was not alone with this problem. Unfortunately, the 50 pages of one thread had users listing problems when they all owned PC's from different manufacturers, all with different configurations and chipsets inside. The one similarity was Windows 7. Different people had different remedies. Mine turned out to be disabling the wireless connectivity on the Acer (I do have a wired connection, so this feature was not necessary to me). That did the trick, and I am now enjoying crystal clear audio. From what I have read and what I experienced, I can't fault Acer for this issue, except for that fact that it's their product they're shipping with problem-causing software installed. I know I'm not alone with that issue, so beware with any PC, including this model, if you have audio problems. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with this PC- it's efficient, stylish, functional.

works excellent
By jamesml
We bought it to attach to our TV by HDMI and Wireless connection to enjoy online videos and musics. It works excellent, very easy setup, fast, without any problem. I have wireless LAN turned on all day long, and didn't notice any issue with the audio observed by the other reviewer. I also streamed some HD 720 videos, not a single issue, works fantastic. I have not tried 1080, and doubt most video providers would not be able to stream them well. Anyway, this is a very good budget desktop, and is powerful and fast enough for most home computing needs. I do not play HD games, by the way, so cannot comment on that.

Great for the price

Last month when my 3 yr old HP computer with vista started crashing & i decided to replace it I originally purchased an e-machines that had 2 GB of RAM & around 512mb of hard drive space with a Sempron processor. It worked fine but with all the things I do on my computer I was concerned about the RAM so I upgraded to this Acer Aspire with 4GB of RAM & the larger hard drive with the Intel Pentium processor. I've had it for going on 3 weeks now & I'm very happy with it. I don't do much of offline gaming, I basically do a lot of music with iTunes, lots of multiple windows open at once, net browsing, online games, I sell on ebay so I have many picttures to uplaod as well. It lives up to the processor & is very fast. For a tiny little tower it sure packs a punch & acts just like a larger tower would. I have yet to use the CD ROM drive as I just downloaded iTunes the other day. It does not come with MS Works, it does come with a trial of Office but to use all the features you have to purchase Office. It comes with a desktop icon of ebay pre-installed as well as desktop icons for Barnes & Noble reader, New York Times, Skype, Norton, McAfee, & basic Acer games. The Windows Anytime Upgrade seems nice but it looks like you have to pay to upgrade anything with it. The only two issues I have is the keyboard seems very cheaply made & not very quiet, pretty clanky and for some odd reason the tower makes an annoying buzzing sound whenever it revs up when you're doing something online. It seems to be some kind of vibration because as soon as I touch the front of it the buzzing stops, not quite sure how to quell this as of yet I've moved the tower around but it keeps happening but it's not hindering any performance, so far it's just a nuisance. It seems like it may be coming from the front where the CD ROM drive is, but not sure. In the box it also came with an antenna for wireless that you can hook onto the back but I have no use for it. Very easy to set up & plug everything in, took about maybe 15 minutes to get everything where it should be. It also comes with an optical mouse and vague instructions but as I said set up was easy. The basic instruction manual can be found online or through the computer itself. It did not come with speakers or a monitor. Overall I'm very happy with it & the fact that it has 4GB of RAM is comforting, for the amount of RAM & size of the hard drive I'm surprised it wasn't more expensive, it's a great deal for the price. I'm very OCD & Picky when it comes to speed & quality of the computer I own & this has some good performance to it. If you like to multitask with multiple windows open, download music, download lots of photos, play online or offline games & basic net browsing this is the perfect computer. I'm an Amazon Prime member, I put the order through at 9pm & received it by the NEXT MORNING, fast delivery & fast setup with a fast little computer. I have always owned more expensive Hewlett Packard computers & this is my first Acer & it's a great product.
