5For what it is (and not what it isn't) it's the choice!

Just sit here and think with this PC, if you are like me and had previously a whole bunch of 32-bit Windows 7 PCs or older Macs around, and you want to try out 64-bit computing. You don't want to spend a lot (because you're a family who has more needs than money, especially with one of the members being a special needs college student)butyou want to experience what 64-bit computing can supposedly do for you. Well, someone had this PC on sale, and since I still have today a flawless time with a much lower end eMachines (who was also under the umbrella of Acer and Gateway) PC that has been a real, complete, and utter trooper; the mental wheels begin to grind and this PC just jumps right out at you and says it's the one to be a 64-bit Windows 7 computing testbed. Also, buying before the release of Windows 8 really helps, as Windows 8 leaves me feeling like "after one perfect version, it's back to the same old Windows", which does NOT encourage this particular person who was a downloader of the Windows 7 Release Candidate, but is loath to touch this Windows 8 slop. Now that we know this PC is perfect from every angle to buy, let's examine actually using it.First day (September 20th, 2012)-hooked it up to the living room television using the included HDMI port through my own cable, set it up, downloaded updates, and began configuration. A little bit shaky, especially since I uninstalled the preloaded Office 2010 Starter.Second day-got it set up for some actual work, when one part of it wouldn't go, fiddled with some more settings-and then tomorrow happened. Late that evening and into early next morning I created recovery DVDs, which would save my bacon.Third day-I got the issue resulting from trying to fix a minor issue fixed, and then started uninstalling Office 2010 support components. This was really bad.Fourth day-Moved the PC into my bedroom since the living room spot wasn't optimal; then tried to install Office 2007 Professional Academic version. It utterly failed Disc 2, which all the other machines could use perfectly.Fifth day-tried several different methods to get Office 2007 to install, all of which were unsuccessful. In fact I messed up Windows Update to the point I had to re-install.Sixth day-tried restore with keeping applications, but Windows 7 didn't like that. Went for the clean wipe and reload option off of my recovery DVDs, made some different choices, which I could have made at the beginning, and when I did it was running like a top. The only problems were due to user error, when I quit trying to make the PC do things it shouldn't and just bought it a 3-install copy of Office 2010 Home and Student it was (and still is) running like a top.Seventh through 10th days-was running like a top, although Office was still needed.11th day-bought a 3-install copy of Office 2010 Home and Student and promptly proceeded to get real functional Office 2010 on the PC. The Starter to Home and Student self-promotion worked flawlessly, and I started exploring the features of Office 2010, of which I have much more to do.12rh day to today (October 5th, 2012); Flawless operation for whatever task I throw at it save viewing math videos for my online math course. The next part describes why this particular PC became my choice in regards to the areas of core specs, plus optional niceties. The Core i3-2120 CPU in this machine had significantly more oomph than my iMac 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo from 2008, and the graphics were powerful enough for the limited uses we do with graphics. Plus virtualization and Hyper-Threading made for a tag-team that allows the CPU to juggle our workflow even better than said iMac-which only offers virtualization. The 6GB stock memory with 16GB maximum was also important for me in many respects, as I didn't want to have to upgrade the PC right away-but when I did need to, I wanted significant headroom. The 1TB hard drive can be a file repository for files created on all of the other network systems, so it was a must. The wireless n was needed, as was the HDMI port, as I needed a network cable-free desktop, one that between a built-in wireless card, separately purchased wireless keyboard and mouse, and a single power and HDMI cable could be fully set up. It's shocking how well this PC meets our needs for it, despite being a bulkier full size minitower. An excellent choice if you can troubleshoot problems yourself.
